As I mentioned in a few posts, I just started school for a degree in Cosmetology. This means that I’m not only learning new techniques for hair and makeup but I’m also learning more about products. This would be a great time to mention a new series that I’m starting but I haven’t quite named it yet so if you can think of a great name that you don’t mind my using leave me a comment down below! Anyway, the point of this new series is that I’m starting to test out different products to use in my cosmetology kit, both as a student and professionally. Today I’m reviewing two products from the Redken Styling Collection that I think could help when we are braiding or styling in class. The two products I’m reviewing are Redken Braid Aid and Redken Fashion Waves.
Redken Braid Aid can be used when braiding to help define braids and make it easier to braid the hair. Along with defining the braid the Redken Braid Aid also helps the braid to last longer. To use Redken Braid Aid you take three or four pumps and rub it in between the hand for a few seconds, you then run it through damp hair from the middle to the ends. Once Redken Braid Aid is in the hair you comb it, section it, and braid it.
Redken Braid Aid has a nice pump style pump that makes sure you get enough product but not to much product with your pumps. When the product comes out of the tube, you’ll see that it’s a white loose cream that can slip a bit in the hands, that’s why you’ll want to rub it between the hands before trying to apply to the hair. As for the scent, Redken Braid Aid doesn’t have a harsh or overpowering scent at all. One thing that I like about Redken Braid Aid is that they don’t have any additives to it that make it smell like fruit or flowers.
Redken Fashion Waves is a texturizing sea spray that helps enhance waves and give a beachy feel with a matte finish! Redken Fashion Waves is salt-infused which is what gives texture and enhancement to the waves. To use Redken Fashion Waves you apply to damp hair in sections and either blow-dry with a diffuser attachment or allow to air dry.
Redken Fashion Waves has a mist-style nozzle which is great for the type of application that Redken Fashion Waves needs. A few other things to note is that while Redken Fashion Waves has a medium control level, you can use the Redken Fashion Waves with other Redken products for more control. Also, if your waves start to fall throughout the day, or you lose a bit of texture, Redken Fashion Waves can be reapplied as needed!
I really enjoyed both of these products! The Redken Braid Aid not only made it easier for me to braid my own hair but it made it super easy to braid my mannequins hair! The Redken Fashion Waves on the other hand wasn’t great for my mannequin but I really enjoyed it on my next day braid hair. Redken Fashion Waves has become my personal go-to for texturizing sprays while Redken Braid Aid will more than likely have a permanent spot in my professional Cosmetology Kit.

Redken has always made great products. I need to try the one for braids with my granddaughter and I could use the product for waves. Thank you so much for sharing. I wish you the best in your new career.
I love redken hair products they seem to work very well as well
Oh how I love Redkin products! I have yet to find one I dislike. Thanks for sharing about some that I have yet to try!
Redkin has some really nice products. I bet my girls would love the braid aid. They both braid their hair a lot, since they both have long straight hair. I will have to tell them about it. Thanks for linking this post.
