I’ve always been a fan of Star Trek. When I was younger I watched Star Trek the Next Generation with my NaNa and I watched the original movies with my mom. When I married the Hubs, who was a Star Wars fan, Star Trek kind of fell to the side, however, once J.J. Abrams decided to reboot the series I was able to talk him into giving the series a shot since he’s a fan. Since that time we have went back and watched Star Trek the Next Generation (multiple times), Star Trek Deep Space Nine, Star Trek Voyager, all of the original movies, all of the rebooted movies, and have started Star Trek Enterprise. So you can imagine my utter joy when Mac, one of my favorite makeup companies, announced they were going to be doing a collaboration in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Star Trek! Here are my first impressions of the MAC Star Trek 50th Anniversary Collaboration.
Can we stop for a second and appreciate the packaging that MAC has for the Star Trek 50th Anniversary Collaboration? I mean look at it! The silver insignia is obvious enough to scream “Trekkie” when you look at it, but not so obvious that it detracts from being an obvious MAC product. I also love that the Trip the Light Fantastic Powders have a clear case so that you can see how gorgeous they are! My only complaint about the packaging is that the plastic case for the powders does feel a little light or cheap, however, they don’t feel super cheap if you know what I mean.
Okay now that we’ve talked about the packaging let’s move onto what’s in the packaging, starting with the Trip the Light Powders. As far as I can tell these are new to MAC and were created specifically for the Star Trek 50th Anniversary Collaboration. Now that doesn’t mean that they won’t be made permanent later but right now the only shades available are these. The Trip the Light Powders are described as being powders that “transform the skin upon contact” and come in three shades Luna Luster, Strange New Worlds, and Highly Illogical.
I got Luna Luster, the lightest shade, to use as a highlight. Due to being a lighter skin tone I was GOING to just leave it at that, however, I couldn’t resist picking up Highly Illogical and I will admit that I did it purely for it’s name. However, before someone scolds me on that, just look at how GORGEOUS they swatch out! Obviously I would sheer these out way more when applying them to my fave but I believe they are absolutely stunning. I’m planning on using Luna Lutser as a highlight, like stated, and I’ll be using Highly Illogical as a blush…I hope.
Moving onto the lipsticks, Mac didn’t create a new special formula or anything like that for these, just the shades and the names. The Star Trek 50th Celebration Collaboration includes four lipsticks in the shades The Enemy Within (a neutral gold shimmer lipstick with a frost finish), LLAP (an icy rose champagne lipstick with a frost finish), Where No Man Has Gone (a pink with gold pearl lipstick with a lustre finish), KlingItOn (a deep purple with pink glitter lipstick with a frost finish).
The two shades that I picked up were Where No Man Has Gone and KlingItOn, I picked these two up partially because of the name but also because the shades look amazing. I haven’t worn them yet but I’m super excited to wear Where No Man Has Gone to school tomorrow!
If you liked my first impressions of the MAC Star Trek 50th Anniversary Collaboration then make sure to come back in two weeks when I’ll have the review up!
