I was so excited to see another Joico PR package arrive on my doorstep. I was excited about the extras that they included in the box with the hair product when I first opened the box, especially the palm tree bottle opener. After checking those out I gave a look at the product and was immediately excited. I’ve used texturizing products before but none that were a liquid to powder! I am super excited to have been sent something so unique to test out, but would the excitement last?
The Joico Hair Shake Finishing Texturizer Spray is designed to provide volume and texture while still allowing the hair to remain touchable and soft. The Joico Hair Shake Finishing Texturizer Spray has a metal ball in the bottle so that shaking before use allows the product to come out as a fine, not chunky, mist that isn’t supposed to weigh down the hair. The last point to note about the Joico Hair Shake Finishing Texturizer Spray is that it is supposed to be fast drying. Essentially, when you spray the texturizer spray on dry hair it should dry fast and without the help of a blow dryer. If you use immediately after blow drying you’ll supposedly get additional volume.
Well that all sounds promising but is it TRUE? As soon as I realized what this product was I wanted to use it IMMEDIATELY and due to the fact that it’s supposed to be used on dry hair I was able to do that. The first thing that I noticed was that the Joico Hair Shake Finishing Texturizer Spray does have a bit of a fragrance when you first spray it on the hair, however, after a few seconds that fades down to just an almost “hairspray” scent to it. I personally didn’t have a problem with the scent and actually enjoyed it, however, if you are sensitive to fragrances you may want to try to find a salon that carries this and give it a sniff first. After spraying it I waited to see if it would infact dry down to a powder finish and for the dreaded white cast that sometimes comes from powder products on darker hair. I was thrilled to notice that the Joico Hair Shake Finishing Texturizer Spray does in fact dry down to a powder state and without leaving a powder cast on the hair! I was super excited about that. As far as how the Joico Hair Shake Finishing Texturizer Spray works, it works super well. My hair, which usually never has volume, had a good bit of volume for the rest of the day plus it gave it texture and movement as well. The only thing I will warn about the Joico Hair Shake Finishing Texturizer Spray is that you do not want to use it if you’re not planning on washing your hair that evening. I wasn’t planning on washing my hair until the next morning so the evening I used it I just threw my hair into a ponytail when I showered and left it like that throughout the night. When I woke up the next morning and took my hair down it was one big, huge, tangled mass.
My final thoughts on the Joico Hair Shake Finishing Texturizer Spray are that it is a great volumizer and texturizing spray. It’s not heavy on the hair and does exactly what it claims it is supposed to. In addition to that it’s currently at a $11.98 price point, marked down from an $18 price point, and that is a great price for a salon quality product. You really should give this a try if you’re looking for more volume in your hair.
