Recently I had the opportunity to review the subscription service Kiwi Crate. I agreed to review this for one reason and one reason alone, STEAM. STEAM stands for Science Technology Engineering Art Math and Kiwi Crate is using their subscription to get children to see themselves in these categories, which I think is awesome. So let’s talk about exactly you get in a Kiwi Crate.
The first items that I want to talk about in the Kiwi Crate are the booklets that come in the box. The crate that I reviewed was themed around cars so it contained a Race Day Booklet and the Explore Booklet, the latter comes in each box. The Race Day Booklet was essentially step by step instructions on how to put together the cars along with ways to tweak them after trying them out the original way. The Explore Booklet is where all the fun is though. This booklet is essentially an activity book that is themed around the boxes theme (i.e. Race Day) and it contains a little story, some activities, a recipe, and my favorite part an activity that you can do with the box that the Kiwi Crate comes in!
Earlier I mentioned that the Race Day Booklet contained instructions on how to put together the cars so obviously the next items in the Kiwi Crate are the items that you need to put together the activity for the box, in this case the car. Even though the above pictures shows what you get to make one care, the box actually includes items to make multiple cars.
To go along with the items to make the activity you also get the items to decorate the activity. This Kiwi Crate included stencils, markers, stickers, and washi tape (my personal favorite) to make the cars more unique and to give kids a way to be artistic while building the activity.
I think what I love most about Kiwi Crate is the customization that is there. If you’re wanting your child to get a random activity each month then you subscribe to the monthly subscription, however, if you’re wanting to pick and choose what activities that they make you can actually purchase the Kiwi Crate’s for the $19.95 without the subscription and know exactly what the theme is (they also have mini crates which are smaller activities that are a bit easier). However, the ultimate best part for me is that you can gift a subscription or a single box to someone. So if you’re looking for a gift for another child in your family or for a classmate then this would be perfect!
