I’m going to be completely honest and let you know ahead of time that I was annoyed with the packaging of the samples that were provided for review. The eyeshadow, while being small, had similar packaging to the full-size that makes it easy to compare. The lipstick on the other hand was the exact opposite. The packaging for the lipstick sample came in a mini tube, similar to an Avon lipstick sample, that if you didn’t take the cap off perfectly wound up breaking the product…guess how I know that. The eyeshadow packaging was pretty decent; sturdy plastic that didn’t feel super cheap, easy to open but latched enough that it stayed closed when it was supposed to, and an eyeshadow well that makes it easy to get to the actual product. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to tell you about the packaging for the lipstick but I was able to put it back together to be able to review the product itself.
I really do wish that the packaging, even for a sample, had been better for the Silk Cream Lipstick because the product itself is AMAZING. MAKE Beauty claims that the Satin Cream Lipsticks are vivid, saturated with color, moisturizing, and conditioning. I was sent the shade Taffy, which is a “your lips but better” shade and after the look of the packaging I wasn’t expecting much from the color payoff.
I was surprised to find that Taffy did have great pigmentation, I imagine the other shades would be even more so as they wouldn’t be a similar shade as the lips. As for the formula of the Satin Cream Lipstick, it is very moisturizing on the lips and doesn’t dry them out at all. The color wasn’t super long lasting, however, when it did wear off my lips didn’t chap, crack, or peel like some lipsticks can cause my lips to do. A few other things to note before moving to the eyeshadow; the application was smooth, the lipstick didn’t feather throughout the day, it aslo set pretty firm and didn’t smudge a lot, but it wasn’t transfer-proof.
As I mentioned earlier, the packaging for the Matte Eyeshadow was pretty good, especially for it being a sample and in comparison to the lipstick’s packaging. The question becomes, will the product be just as good as the packaging? Honestly, the eyeshadow has it’s pros and it’s cons. MAKE Beauty claims that the Matte Eyeshadows are intensely pigmented, has smooth application, is crease-resistant, and has a formula that lasts for hours.
Here are where the pros and cons come in. I received the shade Alabaster, which is a very pretty shade IF you don’t have my skin tone. Seriously, this shade was so light that FOUR layers did nothing but provide a “sheen” where I was applying it. I’ve come to the conclusion that lighter skin tones should stick to this being a base shadow color to apply before applying other colors while darker skin tones could use it as a matte highlight. HOWEVER, that being said about Alabaster, I have tried another shade from MAKE Beauty (Cement) and it was super pigmented and did last for a long time. I think on darker skin tones Alabaster would have the same results.
Overall, I would say that I wouldn’t rush to purchase either of these unless you’re just looking for new products to try right NOW. That being said, I would say that if you have the opportunity to pick these up whether through subscription boxes or gift cards (Birchbox has two shades of the eyeshadow and several of the lipstick) I would do it.

I got these samples too & was also annoyed at their size as well as the colors as they hardly showed up on my complexion. Some of their other products looked nice though, like their primers and skincare. Glad you gave an honest review 🙂

Wow, I wasn’t expecting for this honest feedback about MAKE makeup but I hope the company makes some improvements in the future!

I thought about trying this brand since Sephora carries it now. May have to swatch a LOT to check em out. Thanks for the review 🙂
I love your honesty and my friend who also got accepted into this campaign was disappointed in the packaging because it was so itty bitty. The swatches are beautiful though but I’d pass on trying anything from the brand until I see something that pops out to me. xo
you weren’t the first blog i’ve read that had that packaging issue with the lipstick–how frustrating!
