If you were around the blog at the beginning of September then you may remember the post I did about my first impressions of the MAC x Star Trek 50th Anniversary Collaboration. It’s officially been over three weeks since I posted that so I felt it was time to come back and give you my “official” review of the MAC x Star Trek 50th Anniversary Collaboration products that I got.
Before we jump into talking about the products I do want to mention that if you want to see swatches, especially of the lipsticks, you might want to check out the YouTube video above!
Before we get into my full review I want to recap which products that I purchased from the MAC x Star Trek 50th Anniversary Collaboration and talk about the packaging of the collection. If you remember I purchased two of the new Trip the Light Fantastic Powders, one in Luna Luster and one in Highly Illogical, and two of the lipsticks, one in KlingItOn and one in Where No Man Has Gone. As for the packaging, both the outer and inner packaging were the classic simple MAC packaging with an added Star Trek insignia added onto the products. The lipstick tubes felt the exact same as any other MAC lipstick does so the addition of the insignia was a bonus. The packaging for the Trip the Light Fantastic Powders on the other hand is another story. The packaging feels like a super fake plastic, almost like a kid’s compact would feel, and while I mentioned this in my first impressions post over the time of the review it’s just started to bug me more and more. I ultimately feel that overtime the Star Trek insignia is going to wear off or I’m going to accidentally drop the product and it’s all going to come apart.
Now that we’ve got the packaging out of the way let’s talk about the actual products themselves, starting with the Trip the Light Fantastic Powders. Over the few weeks of reviewing these I’ve come to absolutely hate the packaging of these powders but I’ve fallen in love with the powders themselves. I’ve been using the Luna Luster Trip the Light Fantastic Powder as a highlight on all the points of my face that I would usually highlight and the Highly Illogical Trip the Light Fantastic Powder as a subtle blush/bronze type product. I’ve actually found over the few weeks that anytime I use another highlighter that I will actually find myself reaching for the Luna Luster to top over it because I want the light and shimmer that this particular highlight brings. Like I said, I’m in love with these!
Moving on to the lipsticks. It was mentioned in the comments of my first impression post that due to the lighting that the KlingItOn lipstick came off as black instead of the purple it truly is. To apologize for that, I wanted to photograph the lipsticks separately to show how gorgeous each one is, oh and make sure to check out the video above as I do have swatches of the lipsticks in the video. Now that I’ve explained all of that let’s talk about what I actually thought of the lipsticks, starting with the wear time. I’ve found that both of these lipsticks will last for several hours 6 to 8 if you’re not doing hardly any eating or drinking, however, once you introduce food and water to the situation you might want to be prepared for a touch-up. Speaking of touch-up, I also found that these lipsticks reapply fairly well over themselves. I also love the color payoff and the way that the shades look on the lips, if you follow me on SnapChat then you probably saw the photo that I put up of me wearing KlingItOn with my new hair color. The Hubs wasn’t a big fan of the way that KlingItOn looked, not because it was purple but because he thought it looked like a cheap lipstick and not the quality that MAC usually puts out. However, we both agreed that Where No Man Has Gone looked gorgeous.
Overall I loved the products that I chose from the MAC x Star Trek 50th Anniversary Collaboration. I’m hoping that MAC decides to make more of the Trip the Light Fantastic Powders for other collaborations in the future because if they do I will probably buy more of them. I’m also hoping that they decide to either make KlingItOn a permanent shade with the same name or at least make a similar shade permanent. If they do I will for sure being buying backups of this shade! If you find these at your local MAC then you should pick them up!

How fun is this! I have to admit I was a little disappointed when I read the purple lipstick comes across as black, it looks like such a beautiful shade! The second lipstick looks more my “style” anyways but the purple would have been so much fun. I can’t believe Star trek is 50.. where did the time go?
I know right?! It seems like only a few years ago I was watching Star Trek: The Next Generation with my grandmother (although in actuality it was like 20 years ago!)
These shades are gorgeous!!! This Star Trek collection is so awesome; that shimmery lip shade is stunning for fall! I need to try the Luna Luster powder shade, it’s gorgeous and shimmery! -Jennifer
Luna Luster is an amazing highlight! I’m going to be wearing KlingItOn (the purple) like all Fall long!
The colors in this collection are out of this world (pun intended!). Love the packaging…that is fabulous. We just went and saw the newest Star Trek movie and I’m now totally in the mood for these! Thanks for sharing.
I’m dying over your pun, it was fantastic! I was going to wait to get Star Trek Beyond but these had me wanting right NOW!
Looks like a great collection of shades! I don’t venture out too far, I tend to stick to the same ol’ shades that I’ve always wore. I know a few Star Trek fans that would love this collection. Not just because of it being named after Star Trek, but because of the products. Mac rarely disappoints!
MAC does put out a lot of great products but I think they made sure to be extra careful with this collab. Trekkies can be a…loyal bunch lol.
Thanks for the review. I don’t wear a ton of make-up, but I believe a girl’s lips have to always be on point! I totally love the Where No Man Has Gone Before like your husband. I’ll have to be on the lookout for these for Christmas gifts for my girlfriends! Thanks!
I agree, lips must always be on point! Where No Man Has Gone would be a great gift to give!
The Klingiton color is truly AMAZING. I just bought a plum lip gloss but I would love a purple lip stick for fall. I am all about bold colors. It has been way too long since I’ve bought MAC makeup, it lasts forever and it is always one of my favorites.
I love purple shades from MAC when it comes to fall lipsticks. KlingItOn actually makes my third one!
Oh my gosh, I love that collaboration! I am a huge lipstick junkie so those would fit nicely in my collection. I love how MAC teams up with awesome brands like Star Trek, so cool.
MAC does have some great collabs! I had hoped to get my hands on the Selena collab but wasn’t able to!
