Star Wars: Thrawn Treason Synopsis
Grand Admiral Thrawn faces the ultimate test of his loyalty to the Empire in this epic Star Wares novel from bestselling author Timothy Zahn.
“If I were to server the Empire, you would command my allegiance.”
Such was the promise Grand Admiral Thrawn made to Emperor Palpatine at their first meeting. Since then, Thrawn has been one of the Empire’s most effective instruments, pursuing its enemies to the very edges of the known galaxy. But as keen a weapon as Thrawn has become, the Emperor dreams of something far more destructive.
Now, as Thrawn’s TIE defender program is halted in favor of Director Krennic’s secret Death Star project, he realizes that the balance of power in the Empire is measured by more than just military acumen or tactical efficiency. Even the greatest intellect can hardly compete with the power to annihilate entire planets.
Star Wars: Thrawn Treason Review
After how Thrawn: Alliances went, we are probably wondering if Timothy Zahn can actually wrap this up in a way that is satisfying. Honestly, even without factoring in how this wraps up the trilogy, Thrawn: Treason is a very important book for the current Star Wars canon.
Thrawn: Treason shows Tarkin using Thrawn as a pawn in getting the Death Start project moved forward by including him in a mission that pits the outcome of Thrawn’s TIE defender project against Krennic’s Death Star project. This is somewhat of a spoiler if you have watched any of the original Star Wars trilogy movies. However, the ride through the story is done amazingly well by Timothy. Even though I knew how this was going to end up, I thoroughly enjoyed reading how we got there. We also find out in this book what exactly happened to Eli Vanto at the end of book one in the series.
The way that Thrawn: Treason is important to the canon of Star Wars is what exactly it leads to. When Thrawn leaves at the end of Thrawn: Treason he is heading directly into the conflict that is happening in the series finale of the Star Wars: Rebels tv series. Actually, throughout the book things are happening that are also happening on Star Wars: Rebels. Thrawn: Treason also leads directly into the Star Wars: Rogue One movie that was released as a lead-in to Star Wars: A New Hope. Rogue One shows Krennic’s Death Star project and the “transition” of Krennic as the lead of the project to Tarkin being the lead.
Honestly, if you are a Star Wars fan that likes having some extra stores, this series would be great for you. If you are not a huge Star Wars fan but you did like Rogue One and/or Rebels then you would also like this series. Thrawn: Alliances is a bit lackluster but Thrawn and Thrawn: Treason really make up for it.
