Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit in Red Velvet Review
I’ve somehow collected quite a few lip liners lately; ColourPop, L’Oreal, Mac, NYX, etc. and I have to say that out of all of them this one from the Kylie kit is actually my favorite, which not going to lie kind of annoys me. The claims for the lip liner do not lie, it is VERY easy to apply and it lasts. I honestly do not have a single complaint about the lip liner. The liquid lipstick on the other hand, that’s another story. While I do love the formula as it is more comfortable to wear since it doesn’t dry down completely matte and does leave my lips feeling moisturized, it just does NOT stay put. This lipstick feathers, transfers, and just in general moves and it’s own lip liner can’t keep it corralled. Now the lip liner does an amazing job of keeping other liquid and regular lipsticks in their intended but with this liquid lipstick it just doesn’t.
The one thing that I will give the Kylie Red Velvet Lip Kit is that the color match is excellent. I noticed that several of the kits have liners that are about a shade, if not two, darker than the liquid lipsticks they come with. Don’t get me wrong that’s a look and I went through that look ages ago, I’m just not a fan of going through that look right now. The fact that the liner and lipstick match so perfectly in this kit was a happy bonus for me.
Final Thoughts on the Kylie Red Velvet Lip Kit
But a happy bonus does not always mean you should purchase it. Honestly, for the velvet formula, the Kylie lip kits do not stand up to the hype. I mean they’re good but the lipstick is just to much work, especially when I can throw on the Beauty Bakerie Lip Whip in Mon Cheri (review here) and it’s comfortable but I know it won’t move or transfer ANYWHERE. I will say that the Red Velvet Lip Liner WITH the Beauty Bakerie Lip Whip is PERFECTION. Kylie needs to get on making the Red Velvet Lip Liner a single purchase. Essentially I’m saying, don’t waste your money on this lip kit go purchase the Beauty Bakerie Lip Whip instead…

A great endorsement of Beauty Bakery Lip Whip! I love reds, but I can’t wear the liquid mattes sadly

That red is so enticing! Very gorgoeus. A shame the lipstick isn’t a hit but at least the lip liner is!
I am not in the age range for Kylie but even more it’s that I don’t want to add to her fortune and her excess consumerism. That’s not to say that the cosmetics are bad, they just have hype because of her and not because of the products themselves.
Cindy E Ingalls says
I honestly don’t beleive all the hype over Kylie Cosmetics.
Every liquid lipstick I tried with me wearing mask on at work moved like crazy. Intrigued with the bakerie one you mentioned
Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts! I gotta admit though, that shade is absolutely STUNNING.
Looks very intense! Lovely 😀
Sorry to hear the formula isn’t up to par but the color is nice.
