Okay can we just go back for a moment to the claims… Do you see that? Number three there? I about flipped my shit when I was scrolling down the beauty aisle at my local Walmart and I saw that the CoverGirl Ascension Eye Shadow Palette was a Walmart EXCLUSIVE! WTF?! Hold the phone! I NEVER, in all my days expected to see name brand beauty product be a Walmart exclusive but here we are with COVERGIRL sporting not 1 (sorry that’s all I have for you at the moment though) but FOUR of these palettes. Once you get over your shock, feel free to scroll down for more information (not that you can get much from a Walmart listing *rolls eyes*).

CoverGirl Ascension Palette Row 1 Swatches || Southeast by Midwest #beauty #bbloggers #eyeshadow #covergirl #covergirlmade

Once I got over my shock at CoverGirl having FOUR palettes exclusive to Walmart, I got down to narrowing down which one I would get. Ultimately, I settled on the Ascension Palette (duh, right?!) which was a mistake in the photography department. White palette and white backdrop just do NOT mix. However, out of the four it was the one that I would actually get some use out of since the other three each contained a blue shadows. When I opened it up I was HORRIFIED. WHY must companies keep doing this thing where some of the pans are regular, some are big, and some are small all in one palette?! It drives me bananas and makes me want to return the dang thing…

CoverGirl Ascension Palette Row 2 Swatches || Southeast by Midwest #beauty #bbloggers #eyeshadow #covergirl #covergirlmade

If I’m 100% honest, I would have returned this palette if I had purchased it from Ulta or Sephora. Not because of the layout of the pans, that was just a bonus Jonas. No, these shadows are NOT intensely pigmented nor are they rich in color. The whole bottom row barely shows up on my skin and when it comes to blending they just blend to nothing, or mix together and look muddy.

Final Thoughts on the CoverGirl Ascension Palette

Personally, I wish I hadn’t purchased this palette. It does not make me want to purchase any other CoverGirl palettes. I don’t think YOU should purchase this palette. The ONLY thing I got from this palette is that I’m probably never going to be on CoverGirl’s PR list. The next several posts are also palettes so let’s hope it goes better…

  1. It’s really too bad– in the palette it is so pretty!

    • It really is a pretty display palette.

  2. So I guess that’s why it was an exclusive with Walmart, amirite? Too bad it was such a disappointment. The shades look like pretty neutrals, but if they don’t show up they are useless. Can you not return makeup to Walmart?

    • Ha! I have found that returning anything opened is YMMV for Walmart. Some stores are fine with it and will give you a refund if you have the receipt, some will let you exchange with or without a receipt, and some will not accept anything that has been used with or without a receipt. I could talk for DAYS about the inconsistencies that are Walmart, especially what the the employees do vs. what they are TRAINED to do.

  3. Looks like it had potential but obviously the pigment isn’t there at all. Luckily it’s not expensive and you know not to buy any others.

    • Exactly my thoughts.

  4. Too bad. Even your swatches look like the palette lacks pigment. I don’t understand how these HUGE brands can be so hit or miss!

    • Especially a brand as big as CoverGirl

  6. This one doesn’t really appeal to me either. Haha, you’ll never be on the Covergirl PR list. At least you’re honest!!

    • I don’t understand why brands don’t get that not everyone is alike and if you drop people from your list just because they didn’t love every product you put out, people will eventually take notice.

  7. I like the top row of colours, not so keen on the 2nd row though! Not bad for the price I guess.

    • That’s the marked down price though. When I purchased it the price was $15 so not good for that price, in my opinion.
