I have heard amazing things about Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask but I’ve also heard mediocre things about the Lip Sleeping Mask. However, when I saw the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Sweet Candy I knew I had to give it a review to see if not only if the mask was a dud or not but if the scent mattered at all.
About the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask
The full-size Lip Sleeping Mask has 0.70 oz. of products, comes in a little jar, has a screw top lid, and retails for $20.00. The Lip Sleeping Mask can be purchased at Sephora and Laneige.
Laneige claims that the Lip Sleeping Mask absorbs quickly and protects the lips, retaining moisture. Laneige also claims that they use a Berry Mix Complex in their Lip Sleeping Mask that contains extracts of blueberry, strawberry, raspberry, and cranberry that not only fragrance the mask but also provide benefits to the lips. The ingredients for the Lip Sleeping Mask are:
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Sweet Candy Review
I do have an initial complain that is evident from the moment you open the Lip Sleeping Mask. There is no way to remove the product in the size that I got without using your fingers. Even bore COVID-19 struck I disliked putting my fingers in my skin care products, it’s only gotten worse. For a product in a pot like this, especially one going on the lips, to not have some kind of applicator or spatula is off putting for me. Another thing I want to mention before talking about my experience with this product is the fragrance. The Lip Sleeping Mask in Sweet Candy is VERY fragrant. It smells like fruity candy and that scent does not dissipate. If fragrances bother you then you may want to head into a Sephora and give the Original a sniff to see if it is fragranced as well or just avoid this all together.
Now let’s move onto what I thought about the Lip Sleeping Mask. While I have a few bloggers/YouTubers I like and trust that have thought the Lip Sleeping Mask was amazing there were just as many that thought it just wasn’t worth the money. A good consensus is that this is an average mask. Having used the mask I can say that this is both right and wrong. Is this lip mask going to heal everything you have going wrong with your lips? No, it is not. If you have “normal” lips is this lip mask going to do anything for your lips? Probably not. However, if you have lips that are dry and cracked, especially at night then this lip balm is going to be amazing for you. It’s going to give you something to put on your lips at night to protect them to keep them from getting worse and it actually will heal your lips as you wear it. But again, it will only heal a little bit and not everything. I also liked that the Lip Sleeping Mask wasn’t tacky even though it was super glossy on the lips.
Final Thoughts on the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask
Ultimately whether or not you should pick up this Lip Sleeping Mask is going to depend on the condition of your lips and if you’re okay with fragrance. As I said above, if your lips are for the most part healthy then you should save your money. Same if you have an issue with fragrance. However, if you have dry, cracked lips that tend to get worse overnight then this will be a good buy for you.

Never heard of this until now! I am quite lucky and my lips are good for the most part. If mine get bad I tend to use Vasoline or EA’s 8 Hour Cream – it is a gem! I guess the scent is strong to give you the taste too? I remember trying those Lush ones that you could eat haha they were good too!

I purchased a Lush one but it expired before I had a chance to try it. I’m waiting for them to reopen to stock up on some items and I think I’ll see if they still have those.

It’s too bad that it is so fragrant because that will definitely turn a lot of people away.
Cassie says
Yes it will. I instantly thought of a few people I know who wouldn’t be able to use this.

Unfortunately, the LaNeige Lip Sleeping Mask isn’t heavy duty enough for my super dry lips during the winter. I have the unflavored one, I think. I can use it during the summer, and it’s very nice for “maintenance” for me.
Cassie says
Good point. It’s nice and summer here in California so I might have to do a revisit post on this one later in the year. Wonder if it’ll make my Best of Beauty 2020.

Not a product for me. I have a lot of trouble with the packaging. But more the fragrance would keep me up and I already have insomnia.

I was actually thinking about you when I was trying to describe how heavy the fragrance is. The best way to describe it is, that I can put it on at around 8 or 9pm and fall asleep. When I wake up at 6am the product is absorbed but I can still faintly smell the Sweet Candy on my lips. It really doesn’t go away until I brush my teeth.
Kathryne says
I use lip mask but not this one. Too bad it has strong fragrance.
Cassie says
The fragrance is going to be a real deal breaker for some.

I see several comments talking about the fragrance— if fragrance is an issue the Apple Lime version may be worth trying! It’s much more lightly fragranced than any of the others, unless I just happened to get a weak one 😅 The Sweet Candy is definitely one of the heavier fragrances.
Also, I fully agree as far as hating putting it on my fingers to apply, but for what it’s worth the full size product comes with an applicator which was a nice surprise when I ordered after having used the sample size!
I mostly use it like a lip balm/gloss during the day because, like you mentioned, it is SUPER glossy on the lips— glossier than most of my actual glosses and lasts like 3 times as long. I feel like I get more benefit out of putting on a little bit several times a day instead of a larger amount just at night!
