REN Perfect Canvas Clean Primer Review
Before we talk about the product let’s talk about the packaging shall we? One of the things that I love about REN Skin Care is the care that they take in making sure that their products are recyclable. For the Perfect Canvas Primer, the frosted glass bottle is 100% recyclable after you rinse it out of course. Currently, the pipette / dropper is not recyclable but REN is working on an option that would be. They probably could have gotten away with a pump or pour out style packaging but I personally prefer this dropper style for the viscosity of the formula. Now don’t think I’m sitting over here dripping this on my face like I’m an Instagram star or something. I actually drop a few drop of this in my hands, rub my hands together, and then press this into my face.
Now let’s talk about the Perfect Canvas Clean Primer itself. First the formula, this feels a little bit like an oil but not as liquidy but not thick like a silicone primer either. From there you can see that this is a clear liquid and it does have a slight fragrance. It smells, how to describe this, like that powder fresh scent that some baby products have? It smells EXACTLY like that. I find that it’s not super offensive and I had to sniff a bit to even tell it was there, it also goes away once it’s absorbed into the skin. However, I know that some are sensitive to fragrances so I did want to mention that it’s there. Now for the wear, I found that the consistency of the product was just right for patting into the skin without feeling like I needed to rub it in which can cause pilling. Once it was absorbed into the skin I also found that it mattifies and prefects without drying it out which is a win for me. It worked well under different types of foundations (matte, natural, full-coverage, light-coverage, etc.). I tried this both with and without foundation and found that with both it was long wearing. My skin looked amazing over 8 hours after applying when I wore it by itself and my foundations lasted about an hour or so longer than my favorite primer….
Final Thoughts on the REN Perfect Canvas Clean Primer
The question isn’t if I recommend this, which yes I do, the question should be is a $45 primer worth it? The reason that is the question is because there are different camps on primers. Some believe that they don’t work, they’re a gimmick, and a waste of money. If you happen to fall in that camp then it’s not going to matter what I say about this primer, you’re not going to think it’s worth $5 let alone $45. However, if you’re someone that think that primers provide a barrier between the skin and foundation which keeps the foundation from sinking into the pores and gives it something to cling to making it last longer then to you I say, yes this primer is worth $45. Do I think you need to drop all of your current primers in the trash can and rush to Sephora right this minute and pick it up? No. Do I think that the next time Sephora is having a 20% off sale you should pick this up and give it a try? Yes, yes I do.

I haven’t tried a silicone-free primer, I don’t think 🤔 I also haven’t tried any REN skincare yet. This primer is a skincare serum and primer in one. Sounds fabulous!

I’ve found it hard to find a completely silicone-free primer. Some don’t advertise it and it won’t be the first or second ingredient but it will be down in there somewhere.

I have been using REN products for years, and think that they are first rate. I have not tried this, though.

I started using their products either earlier this year or at the end of last year and I’m glad that I’ve found them.

I really want to try this! I hate when foundation sinks into my pores and makes them look bigger.

Same!

They really do!

This looks like a serum. I will check it out since it doesn’t contain the ingredients I am avoiding like silicone

It almost feels like a serum!
