A few weeks back I reviewed the MAC Aaliyah Eye Shadow Palette, read that review here, and mentioned that I wished I could have gotten the lipsticks. As luck would have it the Hubs managed to pick me up some of the MAC Aaliyah Lipsticks and Lipglass so I thought I should review them for you. While I wanted to get the lipstick in the shade “Hot Like…” and the lipglass in the shade “1 In A Million” but they were out of stock at the time. Today for you I have a review and swatches of the MAC Aaliyah lipsticks in the shades “More Than a Woman” and “Street Thing” and the lipglass in the shade “Brooklyn Born”. To see my thoughts check out the video below or just keep scrolling!
About MAC
I gave some preliminary information about MAC in the eye shadow post linked above and I wanted to try to give information that was a little different this time around. I thought this time I would stick with a few lipstick facts since this post is about lip products. Did you know that MAC’s most popular product when they first started was their intense red lipstick. That lipstick became even more popular when Madonna wore it in a photoshoot. A lot of people that this is what helped launch MAC’s popularity. How popular is MAC’s lipstick? Well according to 2012 research, MAC sells more lipstick than any other non-drugstore brand!
MAC Aaliyah Lipsticks and Lipglass
As I mentioned, one of the shades that I picked up was the MAC Aaliyah More Than a Woman Lipstick which is 3 grams or 0.1 oz. and can be purchased for $18.50 at either Ulta, Nordstrom, Dillard’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s, and of course MAC itself. More Than a Woman is a cool deep red in the Amplified formula, which is an ultra creamy finish. While I wanted to get “Hot Like…” a fire red, which is quickly becoming my go to color, I’m still glad to have More Than a Woman because it is a gorgeous more vampy red shade. More Than a Woman applied really well due to it’s creamy finish and lasted for several hours before starting to wear off.
The next shade I picked up was the MAC Aaliyah Street Thing Lipstick which is also 3 grams or 0.1 oz. and can be purchased for $18.50 at either Ulta, Nordstrom, Dillard’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s, and of course MAC itself as well. Street Thing is a pure black with shimmer in the Frost formula, a high pearlized finish. Street Thing is a nice grungy vampy shade but being a Frost formula it can be a bit patchy when applying but it didn’t tug or anything which I liked. Street Thing lasted for a few hours before wearing off, not as long as More Than a Woman but longer than other lipsticks.
The last thing I picked up was the MAC Aaliyah Brooklyn Born Lipglass which is 3.1 milliliters or 0.10 oz. and can be purchased for $17.50 at either Ulta, Nordstrom, Dillard’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s, and of course MAC. Brooklyn Born is a MAC Lipglass, which is a high-gloss formula that can be worn either over another lipstick or on its own. Brooklyn Born is very glossy and applies well over other lipsticks and looks gorgeous on the lips when worn alone.
MAC Aaliyah Lipsticks and Lipglass Review
When it comes to the products in this collection they perform like similar products form the MAC line. The Amplified and Frost formulas perform like other lipsticks of those formulas and the Lipglass performs like other Lipglasses. MAC lipsticks tend to last from one one meal to the next for me unless I’m doing A LOT of talking but once foods or a good bit of liquid is introduced that’s it for them. If you’re looking for something with Lipsense longevity then these aren’t it, however, that’s pretty typical for most non-liquid lipsticks, at least on my lips. As for the Lipglass, I LOVE what they do for the lips, whether on their own or on top of another lipstick, but they aren’t any longer lasting than the lipsticks. That being said, they do last longer than other lipglosses…although if I’m being honest that’s because most other lipglosses either leave my lips feeling tacky or stick to my longer hair and I wind up wiping them off.
Final Thoughts on MAC Aaliyah Lipsticks and Lipglass
Before I give you my final thoughts, let me lay out the swatches in the above photo. The first swatch is More Than a Woman by itself, the next swatch is More Than a Woman with Brooklyn Born over it, the third swatch is Street Thing by itself, the fourth swatch is Street Thing with Brooklyn Born over it, and the last swatch is Brooklyn Born by itself. I do want to mention that it is hard to get a good idea of what lipsticks look like with lipglasses over them in swatch just due to not being able to duplicate what happens when the lips are rubbed together but this will at least give you an idea. Now, on to my final thoughts. While above in my review I did “criticize” the longevity of the products know that I was letting you know, really, how MAC lipsticks and lipglasses work on me as a whole. What I’m saying is, if you’ve worn MAC lipsticks in the Amplified or Frost formulas or a MAC Lipglass and you’ve liked them then you’ll like these as well and you should pick them up. If you’ve tried them and you don’t like them then these probably won’t be any different and I would suggest skipping them.

More Than a Woman Lipstick is so pretty!

The only formulas that truly last are matte and I don’t like how matte lipsticks look on me. I’ll stick with Amplified and Cream lipsticks to keep my lips looking softer. More Than a Woman is a great red.

So sweet of your husband buying you makeup. Keep the love aflame

Was that one swipe of More Than A Woman in your swatch? Looks like it would need a couple of swipes for full opaque color, but it is a gorgeous shade. I’d love it. And I love the packaging for the collection. So lovely

Yes that was just one swipe, I like to do just one so that you know exactly what you’re getting. On my lips it took about three but one of those was done after blotting to also see how it did with layering. I applied to the lips with one swipe, went back over with a second swipe to build it up a bit, blotted to remove some access, and then reswiped one more time. It looked gorgeous and played well with layering. Hope that helps! 🙂

Aaliyah was so amazing – so sad that we lost her so early!

These are pretty but dark lipsticks make my lips look even thinner.

Street Thing is such an unusual color. Not exactly easy to wear, but I appreciate that MAC did something unique.

I wasn’t a fan of the lipsticks in this collection, but I loved the eyeshadow palette!
