A few years ago, in North Carolina, I went into a MAC store and was color matched in one of the most ATROCIOUS color matchings in my life. Fast forward to the end of last year when I went past a MAC counter inside a Nordstrom in California. The person at the counter not only matched me to my most PERFECT shade match but foundation as well, the MAC Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation in shade NW13… and that was a bit putting the cart before the horse *eye roll* Keep scrolling for more about this foundation and my obviously horrible thoughts on it.

MAC Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation Review
The first MAC foundation I was matched to was the Studio Fix and one of the things I found most annoying about it was that you had to purchase an additional pump for it, which is an additional $10 on top of the $31 foundation. When the MAC artist opened the Waterweight Foundation and it had the dropper inside I almost grabbed it out of their hands to purchase without even having it color matched. Getting it home and actually using it I fell even more in love with the applicator. You can do the Instagram “drop the liquid all over your face and make a mess all over your face, your clothes, and your work surface while wasting a crap ton of product like you’re a Rockefeller” without actually wasting a bunch of product. It puts out enough product to drop on a section of your face but not so much that you lose control of the product. I feel like this makes sure that I get enough product that I can actually build up some coverage because mama needs a little more than sheer but I’m not wasting a bunch all over the back of my hand or all over EVERYTHING.
Speaking of coverage, let’s talk about the formula. I agree with MAC on all of their claims. The initial coverage is indeed sheer, however, it can be built up to a more medium coverage without getting cakey. The Waterweight Foundation is very hydrating and it stays that way throughout the day. The Waterweight Foundation itself also lasts all day without oxidizing which is a big bonus for me. The last thing I like about the Waterweight Foundation is that it has SPF 30 in it. While I don’t recommend counting on this foundation for your only sunscreen protection it is nice to have some in there.
Final Thoughts on the MAC Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation
Ultimately if you’re looking for a long-wearing, natural looking foundation that isn’t cakey, that provides hydration, doesn’t cake up, and provides a bit of SPF then this is a foundation you need to try. Also, if you’re looking for a MAC foundation that comes with an applicator try this one before the Studio fix -.-

I really like sheer, buildable, foundations. This looks like a formula that I would like.
You probably would!
Can you believe it, I’ve never tried a MAC foundation! Although Waterweight sounds lovely, sheer – medium coverage isn’t enough for me. But I am glad that it is a hit for you. I don’t think I have ever used a foundation with a dropper. I’m more of a pump girl, but I have never had to pay extra to get the pump. MAC, come on!
I know it’s so ridiculous to have to pay extra for a dang pump. It should come included either in the bottle, in the box, or if you ask for it at a store/counter. Pixi includes a dropper in their face oil boxes so it’s not that difficult.
I no longer match any MAC foundation. Luckily when I had my pro discount I thought I had a match. Now if I try those foundations on I realize that they are all wrong for me. MAC was the leader in shades of foundation but I think they need to take a new look.
I agree. There are so many people who are in between shades or don’t have a match at all.
I’m always looking for new foundations, I’ll have to give one a try.
I am as well. I’m trying to decide what to try next.
