ColourPop Misunderstood Palette Review
Before we talk about the actual product and my thoughts can we take a second to talk about the packaging. For those of you who don’t know the ColourPop Misunderstood Palette is the second collaboration between Disney and ColourPop, the first one being a Disney Princess themed collection. This collection focused more on the villains and you can really see that in the design of this packaging. I feel like with the packaging and the color choice of the shadows they are really starting off on a good foot. Let’s look at some swatches shall we.
The first five shadows are No Spots which is a matte pure white, Mongrels which is a metallic pink ivory, Diablo which is a metallic lime, Devious which is a matte terracotta, and Tragic which is a matte soft warm beige. These all swatched really well with only Devious giving me a bit of trouble. Mongrels looked AMAZING on the eyes and I didn’t feel like I needed to foil it.
The second five shadows are Underworld which is a metallic bronzey copper, Pain & Panic which is a metallic mid-tone gold with peachy pink flecks, Forest of Thorns is a metallic orchid, Flotsam which is a metallic baby pink with blue glitter, and The Fates which is a matte deep blue. These gave me a bit more problem, as you can tell with Forest of Thorns and The Fates, and unlike Devious, which did work well on the eyes as a transition shade, those two wound up being patchy on the eyes as well. Flotsam needed to be sprayed to really pop which I hated because it had so much potential but Pain & Panic is where it’s at for this set of shades.
The last five shadows are Revenge is a matte charcoal grey with silver glitter, Sing is a metallic dark brown with hot pink to gold duochrome flip, Jetsam is a metallic denim blue with teal duochrome flip, Facile which is a metallic rich olive green with gold flecks, and 101 which is a matte black. This row is the row of looks can be deceiving. In the photo these look a bit patchy and because they’re not shades that go super well together they kind of downplay each other. HOWEVER, on the eyes these are all STUNNING. Seriously these five shades make it worth the price of admission alone.
Final Thoughts on ColourPop Misunderstood Palette
Honestly, my recommendation of whether or not to purchase this palette depends on soooo many things. First off, are you a Disney fan? If you are then you probably already have this palette so just make sure to come back next week for more Disney reviews *wink*. If not, then the question becomes do you like the color story of this palette. If these are not shades that you would normally wear then you’re probably going to want to skip this, if you like these shades then it’s probably safe to say you’d like this palette. However, what about those claims? While I did have a problem with two of the shades being a bit patchy I ultimately found that the shadows did apply and blend well, they were SUPER velvety and buttery, the shadows were not chunky at all, they were long lasting on the eye, and the shades like Flotsam which I felt didn’t have enough POW was probably designed that way because of the soft focus claim. All-in-all I would recommend the formula and then from there if these are colors you like then I say go for it!
