For those of you who know us you know that the Hubs is a huge comic book fan, especially the Marvel Universe. When Marvel launched the new Marvel Cinematic Universe he was super excited and if we haven’t gone to the theaters for every movie launch then we’ve at least gotten every Blu-Ray on launch day. A Marvel theater or Blu-Ray release is a special event in our house and Guardians of the Galaxy was no different.
To start off our movie night we obviously got the Guardians of the Galaxy Blu-Ray, the Hubs had a hard time choosing between the special Character-O that Walmart had exclusively or the 3D Blu-Ray he finally decided on the 3-D Blu-Ray. Since we were already at Walmart anyway we decided to go on ahead and pick up the exclusive Musical Zinepack that they had for the soundtrack.
We also picked-up some of the Guardians of the Galaxy toys while we were at Walmart. The Hubs claims that these were just for decorating the table but I have a feeling that they’ll be decorating the rest of the house by the end of the weekend. A couple of things to note about the toys is that A. the Pop Vinyl figures MAY or MAY NOT be located with the other toys at your Walmart. We’ve gone to a couple and at one they were with the toys but at the other they were at the front of the store. B. The Dancing Groot Guardians of the Galaxy Pop Vinyl technically isn’t supposed to come out until the end of December, however, one of our local Walmarts had actually put them out on the shelves early so we went ahead and picked one up. He’s a bobble head Pop Vinyl and is so adorbs. C. From now until December 13th, if you buy 2 (two) of the Groot, Drax or Rocket Racoon figures for Disney Infinity 2.0 then the cashier will automatically give you a $5 gift card!
Speaking of decorations, since we decided that for Guardians of the Galaxy that we were going to go all out and have a movie party we needed some decorations. Since there wasn’t any Guardians of the Galaxy party supply merchandise released I decided to get a little creative with the supplies that I got, choosing to partner them in colors of the characters of the movie. The small purple plates and green cups are for Gamora, the orange plates and white tablecloth are for Rocket, while the red and white napkins are for Star-Lord.
Once we had the table all decorated it was time to start laying out all the yummy food. Since we have people of varying tastes we decided to make sure there were plenty of options for everyone. At one end of the table we had just regular butter popcorn…
…and at the other end of the table we had a bowl of Sriracha popcorn. We made sure to keep these on completely separate ends of the table so that no one would accidentally grab some of the spicier Sriracha popcorn.
Moving down the table we had some of the plates and the cups setup for other items that we had at the party. As you can see in the picture we used the Guardians of the Galaxy Musical Zinepack as part of the decorations for the start of the party. Don’t worry, once everyone got there that CD was quickly unwrapped and popped into a computer for some jams while we mingled and talked about how excited we were for movie time!
While the Hubs and I are on a No Soda diet that doesn’t mean that everyone else is as well. With that in mind we made sure that we had sodas for the people that were coming over that drank them but we also made sure that Rocket Raccoon was there to keep us from trying to sneak one, it was VERY tempting.
You can’t tell from the picture what that particular food item is, that’s intentional by the way, but I can safely tell you that it is a desserty type item. For a more specific hint it’s the candy that’s peanut butter covered by chocolate, white chocolate for these ones, that have a little brown wrapper inside of the outer wrapper. That was probably way more convoluted than it needed to be! Again while we mingled we let the Guardians of the Galaxy 3D Blu-Ray serve as part of the decorations of the table. Also, that particular Star-Lord is the Battle FX 12″ Action Figure which comes with all the little toys, the guns and the headphones, that you have seen scattered across the table…it also talks and makes noises.
We wanted to make sure there were plenty of snacks for everyone so we included a couple of extra things. The one on the left is another desserty type snack. This version is just the regular peanut butter and chocolate, however, on the shelves there was a Peppermint Bark version that was VERY tempting to get. Not knowing how it would go over with the guests we decided to stick with the regular.
We also made sure to include the staple movie night item and that’s chips and dip! We included two styles of dips so there was a good selection for everyone. The two that we chose were a guacamole and a french onion style. This is also a better view of the Dancing Groot Guardians of the Galaxy Pop Vinyl figure. Didn’t I tell you he was adorbs?
The last thing that we had at our party was of course some pizza! We picked-up some frozen ones while we were at Walmart and made sure to have a meaty pizza for our carnivores and a veggie pizza for vegetarians. These were super easy to throw in the oven twentyish minutes before people started arriving and even easier to just pop on the plates and take them with us to sit and watch the movie!
Before we get into the movie, I’m sure you’re wondering what the full table looked like as you’ve seen all the bits and pieces of it. This is what the full table looked like for our Guardians of the Galaxy movie night! I’m pretty proud of it as it’s really the first party that I’ve held where I’ve actually decorated. Do you like how the Hubs snuck in that poster too? He’s a sneaky bugger I tell you!
As for the movie itself, it was excellent. There were action parts, there were funny parts, there were sci-fi parts, there were even sad parts and romance parts. All-in-all it was a great movie that I’m glad we celebrated watching with a just as awesome party. Did you catch the part at the very end of the movie before the credits role about the Guardians of the Galaxy returning? Do you think there’s going to be a sequel or will they be coming back in another Marvel movie? Only time will tell!

Important Note
Make sure that you stick around during the first part of the credits for a little comedy part with Drax and at the very end of the credits there’s what’s called a “Stinger” which features another Marvel character that many might not realize is a comic character.
Also, if you head to your local Walmart and go to the electronic section and find that all the copies of Guardians of the Galaxy seem to be gone, make sure to look around for a display as most of the copies might be there. I suggest asking an employee if they know where the display might be located as at one Walmart the display was being setup in front of the electronics section while at another Walmart it was right in front of the door as soon as we walked in (that’s the one pictured).
Another thing to note is that the Guardians of the Galaxy toys maybe in different spots as well. Some Walmarts may have these on a display around the store, while other Walmarts might just have them in the action figure toy aisle.
Nothing better than great snacks and a great movie. I definitely have to put that movie in my must see.
Sounds like a great time was had! Haven’t seen the movie yet but will soon hopefully
This is SO awesome! We’re huge nerds in this house and love having little themed movie nights too! I used to read a lot of comics as a kid as well as my husband.

Looks like a great night! My kids adored Guardians of the Galaxy and we can’t wait to sit down and watch it together as a family!
Guardians of the Galaxy was a really big hit this year. The characters really made a mark in the movie.
Oooo – I want to try that Sirarcha-flavored popcorn! I haven’t seen this movie yet, but I think it’s something my nephew would like. When I subscribed to Loot Crate, we received a Groot Pop-Vinyl with glow-in-the-dark features.
The Hubs LOVES the Sriracha flavored popcorn and we saw the glow-in-the-dark Groot he wanted it…until it was announced this one was going to be launched and then we had to have this one instead! lol
Looks like you all had a fun night! Great photos.
