Holiday Gift Guide: Makeup for “Guru’s”

Holiday Gift Guide: Makeup for "Guru's" on southeastbymidwest.com

It’s time for the third holiday gift guide in my series. Monday’s Holiday Gift Guide was Makeup for Beginners, while Tuesday’s Holiday Gift Guide was Makeup for Intermediates. Can you guess what today’s Holiday Gift Guide is?

1 | YSL Babydoll Mascara

On Monday I mentioned that a clear mascara would be good for a beginner, and yesterday I mentioned that when that beginner was ready to move to the next step that Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara was a great next step. Today I bring you the next mascara in that line, YSL’s Babydoll Mascara. This is a mascara that makes the lashes look PHENOMENAL! It adds tremendous length, volume, and separates like ain’t nobody’s business. To tell you how great this mascara is I would totally use it on any bride that was getting married, that’s how great this mascara is!

2 | Mac Prep + Prime

Primer is a great step for an advanced makeup user, especially one that’s doing makeup tutorials. They’re going to want that foundation to be FLAWLESS and a good primer is a great first step for this. Mac’s Prep + Prime is a great primer for this as it absorbs extra oils in the skin as well as counteracting any redness in the skin. Also, while it does absorb the extra oil it does not dry out the skin so it’s great for all skin types.

3 | Clarisonic Mia

Clarisonic’s are a nifty little device that hit the market a few years back. Essentially this product helps your cleanser penetrate deeper into your skin. This would partner beautifully with a refill of the Philosophy Purity Cleanser from yesterday’s list. As a self-proclaimed beauty guru I can tell you that this little baby is for sure on my Christmas wishlist.

4 | Sigma Mr. Bunny Travel Kit

Another item on my personal wishlist are the Sigma Mr. Bunny Travel Kit brushes. This is a great set as it comes with a few face brushes, eye brushes, and a carrying cup to store them in. The cup also closes and snaps together for traveling. This set also comes in a regular set of brushes, instead of the fluffier Mr. Bunny, which can be purchased in different colors. These brushes are of excellent quality and are loved by beauty guru’s all over YouTube.

5 | Sephora Gift Card

Again if all fails resort to a gift card. However, for a beauty guru Sephora might be a better bet than Ulta as it carries high end products that are on the lower side and the higher side of the spectrum. The gift recipient will find products from brands like Benefit, Dior, and even Chanel.

  5. I always see people raving about Clarisonics – maybe I’ll have to try one. Is there any easy/cheap beginner version?

    • Olay makes a cheaper version that you can sometimes find on sale in your local drugstore. It’s not AS good as the Clarisonic, but it is a good starter version.

  10. I am a mascara mama. I don’t leave home without it. But other than that, I don’t wear too much make-up. Don’t get me wrong, I love to get glammed up. But, as a mom of 2 under 4 there just isn’t much time!! Advice to a minimalist: What’s the one thing you can’t live without?

    • Lipstick is the one thing I can’t live without. I have to have some kind of lip product on at all times. 🙂

  13. I have been dying for a Mia. Last year my husband instead bought me a Clairol Professional RX thing. It does okay but I know it is nothing compared to the Mia. Hopefully this year my dream will come true.

I keep hearing about that Mac primer. I suppose I should try it. I’m not much of a make up girl but I do like to have a few trusty go to products that give good results when I need them.
