Drugstore Makeup Kit

I’ve seen quite a few people doing their versions of a Beginners Drugstore Makeup Kit. Usually these kits are under $50, I’ll be completely honest and tell you up front that this kit will be around $60 depending on what discounts you can find etc. I could have gone with cheaper products to fall below that $50 mark, however, I wanted to use products that I use and trust. Therefore, these aren’t products that are super cheap with horrible quality and no staying power.

Drugstore Makeup Kit on southeastbymidwest.com

1. CoverGirl Outlast 3-in-1 Foundation – $7.79

I find that CoverGirl tends to be the better foundation for most skin types. It is a good brand for a general foundation that will work for just about everyone. What helps them accomplish this is the multi-line foundations that they have. They have the Clean line for people with sensitive skin, the Queen line for people with darker skin tones, the Olay line for people with more mature skin, their general line for the average person, AND their higher end line which tends to have foundations that are similar to the general line but that have better quality and staying power. The Outlast 3-in-1 Foundation falls into the latter of all those categories. The 3-in-1 foundation that has primer, concealer, and foundation all built into the product. Beauty guru’s swear by this foundation and it lives up to it’s name. You probably could get away with leaving off the concealer if you were to purchase this product.

2. Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer – $8.99

I did just say that you could leave off concealer and after glancing at the price of the Maybelline Age Rewind concealer I’m sure you’re probably tempted to. However, there are a few things to factor in. First off, this concealer is an age rewind concealer and while you will not see instant age rewinding results upon using it, you will start to notice a difference after awhile. Secondly, this concealer does come in a dark spot removal formula which will help in lightening any dark spots you may have due to acne. Thirdly, when you’re in the middle of a breakout a little extra concealer never hurt anyone. Remember though, when using a concealer to conceal breakouts to get a shade that MATCHES your foundation/skin tone instead of a brightening concealer. Which brings me to my last point, if you purchase a shade lighter than your normal skin tone with this concealer it works as a great highlighting concealer.

3. Rimmel Stay Matte Powder – $4.99

Rimmel is a company that I recently have FINALLY been able to test out, and let me tell you I’m so glad that I was able to. I love most of their products, just being honest, and this is one that I hits at the top of my list. This powder really is A. translucent (not all translucent powders are, sadly) B. cost effective and C. great at keeping you matte. Also, a powder translucent setting powder is a good starting point for those who may not be brave enough to venture forth into loose powders.

4. Maybelline Fit Me Blush – $4.99

Maybelline has a great selection of blushes in both their cream Dream Bouncy blushes and their powder Fit Me blush. A cream blush can be a bit hard for a beginner to master so I chose instead the powder blush. The powder blush adds a nice flush to the cheeks that has a long staying power.

5. NYC Bronzer in Sunny – $2.79

To begin with I’ll say that a bronzer is not a product that everyone likes to use, therefore if you don’t like it or you’re not sure how to use it then feel free to skip this product. Bronzer is a brown power, preferably with NO orange undertones, that is applied in the hollows of the cheeks. This is done to give the cheeks more shadow, which will in turn make the cheekbones stand out more. Essentially you are slimming your face. NYC’s Bronzer in Sunny is a cheap but effective product. This bronzer flatters just about every skin tone and it’s hard to go overboard with it, although it is possible.

6. E.L.F. Baked Highlighter – $3.00

E.L.F. products are again cheap but effective. The E.L.F.Baked Highlighters add a glistening glow to the top of the cheekbones. E.L.F. offers this product in three different shades so you should be able to find one that is best for your skin tone. With these products ringing in at $3 it wouldn’t cost to much if it took more than one try to find your right shade.

7. NYX Naturals Palette – $6.99

NYX products are new found favorites to me. Now normally I am not a big fan of drugstore eyeshadows as I find the quality is always hit and miss, with more misses than hits, and the staying power isn’t that great. For a little bit more I can purchase an eyeshadow from a brand I know has good quality and staying power. Plus, doing it that way allows me to not have 100’s of eyeshadows that I will never use. All that being said, NYX eyeshadows are some of the better drugstore shadows. The Naturals palette specifically has a lot of great shadows that have very good pigmentation and lasting ability, plus with the multiple colors you will be able to get many looks from this.

8. Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl in Nude – $4.49

Nude eyeliners are great to put on the inner waterline to brighten the eyes. Rimmel’s ScandalEyes is non irritating on the waterline and lasts throughout the day without running off the eyes.

9. CoverGirl Flamed Out Mascara – $7.99

I just reviewed this product and I loved it. It gives very voluminous and flared lashes. Now if you’re looking for length you might want to look for a different mascara, or find a lengthening mascara to add to this one.

10. Revlon Colorburst Lip Balm – $7.49

Revlon’s Colorburst Lip Balm is a hydrating and non-sticky formula with just the right amount of color payoff. There are several “your lips but better” shades, shades that add just a touch of color and a nice glisten, as well as some that are full-on shades.

I did a post like this a few years ago with drug store finds. I am not a makeup person but you can find so many things cheaper in the drugstore than you would in regular stores.

I don’t think I’ve ever used a highlighter, but I have used some other ELF products and was very pleased with the price and quality.

Not a makeup person ay all, but really should have a basic kit for the special occasions when I step out with the hubs. I kid you not I wanted to wear some makeup the other day and the one lipstick I love is from over 10 years ago when I got married. I wore it but my friends later told me not too because of the age and bacteria. I really didn’t knowany better,

I like that you are sharing information and giving quality products. If I have to reapply everything several times per day, I am not saving money by purchasing low quality merchandise.

I am a huge fan of Covergirl mascara. I don’t know why anyone would want to spend $30 for high end mascara when its the same basic formula as Covergirl for a fraction of the price.
