I don’t know if you know this but my birthday is at the beginning of April and this year the Hubs went all out spoiling me. He made me from scratch a Gluten-Free Chocolate Cake with Buttercream Frosting and a Gluten-Free Shrimp Po’Boy with homemade remoulade sauce! So of course I had to repay the favor by combining some of his favorite items and making him a DIY Coffee Milkshake. Now in our household we get a little cray-cray with our milkshakes, so hold onto your seats while I show you how to make a DIY Coffee Milkshake!
DIY Coffee Milkshake Ingredients
The first thing you’re going to want to do is get your ingredients. The first ingredient, and the most important ingredient, you need is your coffee. I actually decided to try something new this time and went with the Folgers® Coffeehouse Blend that I picked up at the Publix in Aiken, SC. I went with Folgers because it’s a brand that we’ve tried many times in the past and he loves it and I went with the Coffeehouse Blend because it was a med-dark roast. I didn’t want to go dark as I thought the coffee flavor would overpower the milkshake but if I went medium or below I felt the reverse would happen. The nice thing about the Coffeehouse Blend is that due to the medium-dark roast it starts out with a smooth flavor but as you drink it a more bold distinct flavor is there. Although, I think my favorite thing about this particular blend is the fact that the flavor doesn’t get lost when other things are mixed in like ice cream for milkshakes or cream and sugar for regular coffee!
After you’ve picked out your coffee you’re also going to want to pick up some chocolate AND vanilla ice cream. Yep you read that right, we’re going all in and using a little of both! You’re also going to want to get some caramel, whipped cream, and optionally you can add some decorations on top like a cherry or colored sugar.
DIY Coffee Milkshake Step 1
Once you have all your ingredients you can start putting things together. The first place you want to start is with the coffee, you want to do this so that your coffee has time to cool before you put it in the blender with the other ingredients. Essentially you’re going to brew your coffee and then take it off the burner and let it cool down before you add it. The great thing about the Folgers Coffeehouse Blend is that it can be brewed regularly, as a Cold Brew, or even as a Brew Over Ice! If you’d like you can add some ice to it as it starts to cool but it isn’t necessary. As the coffee starts to cool you could go ahead and add your mugs to the freezer but that is entirely optional!
DIY Coffee Milkshake Step 2
Once your coffee has cooled sufficiently you can start adding items to your blender. Add in 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, 2 scoops of chocolate ice cream, the caramel, and the coffee. Then blend until you get your desired consistency.
DIY Coffee Milkshake Step 3
Once you have it blended it’s all about serving it up now. Add your milkshake to your glass, top it with some whipped cream, and any other toppings you would like and present to the person you made it for. Hopefully they love it!

As you can tell, the Hubs loved his! If you want your milkshake to be a bit thinner make sure to use more than the 1 cup of coffee than what the recipe calls for. On the other hand, if you want your DIY Coffee Milkshake to be thicker pop a few ice cubes in while you are blending. Before you go, make sure to check Folgers out on their social media down below and make sure to check out the other varieties of Folgers coffee here.

I will have to remember this to make for friends, oddly my mom didn’t drink coffee when I was growing up so I never did and never developed a taste for it, but my friends drink it so this would be fun to make when they come over.

I could use a coffee milkshake right now. I just feel so “weekendy” and all I want is to sit and be lazy. That coffee milkshake is just the energy boost I need. Of course, Folgers coffee is always the best.

Your milkshake looks so refreshing and delicious. Folgers coffee has been my family’s choice. I grew up watching my mom reach for a can of Folgers to make her morning coffee! I am going to make milkshakes tomorrow. My kids (and grandkids) will be visiting and I know they’d love an old fashioned milkshake!
