I got to thinking, if the Hubs and I were to jump on a plane today to go on vacation what beauty items would I have to have with me…and then I got to thinking “Oh crap I don’t even know what sizes I could actually get on the plane with!” So after some pondering and some rule reading I came up with this list of 5 Must Haves for Your Carry-On.
Carry-On TSA Requirement
Before we get into what you should bring, let’s discuss how it should be brought. All liquids, creams, gels, etc. should be stored in your carry-on in the 3-1-1 method as suggested by the TSA. But what is the 3-1-1 method, you may be asking. The 3-1-1 method essentially means that each liquid, cream, gel, etc. that you bring MUST be 3.4 oz. or less, must be stored in a 1 quart zip topped clear bag, and you may only have one of these per person. Also, this bag should be placed in the plastic bin when you go through the metal detectors before being placed back into your carry-on.
Must Haves
Emybrolisse Moisturizer || A face moisturizer is a must have on an airplane in my opinion. The recycled air can really dry you out, especially on a long flight, so having something to keep your face moisturized is a must. You can purchase a 1 oz. bottle of this, which meets the requirements of the TSA, for $16.
Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment || To go along with the dryness of you face, your lips are probably going to get dry and chapped as well. A hydrating lip balm is another must and the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment is one of my favorites as it keeps lips hydrated for a long time, which means less times applying, and it smells like lemons! Due to this being a lip balm you can actually just keep this in your purse instead of your carry-on.
L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream || Keeping with the dry skin theme, your hands might get dry and icky as well. A good hand cream will go a long way to combat that, however, you don’t want to get one that is heavily scented, especially in a closed-up space like an airplane. The L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream has a hint of shea butter scent but not enough to be off putting to the people next to you, plus it’ll leave your hands silky smooth. You can purchase a 1 oz. tube of this, which meets the requirements of the TSA, for $12.
Neutrogena Travel Makeup Wipes || Towards the end of your flight you’re probably going to want to wipe all that grime off before getting off the plane and meeting the world. A good way of doing that is by keeping a pack of traveling makeup remover wipes in your handbag. Here’s a secret: I use makeup remover wipes for everything! Sticky or dirty hands? Totally just grab a wipe out of my bag. Face dirty but no makeup on? Grab a makeup remover wipe and clean it off. A small pack of makeup remover wipes would be a lifesaver for me on a place. With these, I’d just keep them in my purse.
Mac Mini Fix || After you’ve pulled off all the dirt and grime you’ll probably need a pick-me up to revitalize your face, and yourself. Mac Fix+, which a lot of people use as a setting spray, is loaded with vitamins, minerals, green tea, and a few other things and is spray that you can just mist over your face. Mac makes a travel-friendly version of this in a 1 oz. bottle, which meets the requirements of the TSA, for $10.
Now that you’ve seen what I think are your 5 Must Haves for Your Carry-On, head on over to Page and Screen (the Hubs site) to see what 5 Movies he suggest you download for your long flight!
Thanks so much for highlighting these great products. I’m off to check out those movies.
I’ll definitely be giving L’Occitane a try. I’m always looking for a new hand cream. I’ll probably be giving all of these a try, actually.
These are all great items for your carry-on. What a great selection of movies. Movies are a must when traveling.
I love those makeup remover wipes. I use them all the time.
This is great information. The TSA makes it hard to know what they will allow on the plane until you get there. Your list helps me figure it out and I won’t have anything thrown away at the gate this time! Thanks.
These products in these sizes would be perfect to keep with you in your pocketbook traveling or not! L’Occitane is a product I have used on occasion ad love!
They all sound wonderful. Good to have on hand especially if the airlines lost your luggage!
I think I would really like those Neutrogena Wipes! My face feels so gross by the time I get off the plane, having something handy that will freshen me up a little does sound like a must have!
Thanks for this great post! I love the beauty products you listed, and learning about the 3-1-1 method was quite helpful. Thanks!
Now you’ve got me thinking what I would even take! I don’t wear much make up, and u don’t really do much else. Maybe some eye shadow, mascara and foundation would be all I take. Lotions and creams would wait at home… Who knows if I would even bring anything! I had no idea there is as guidelines!
I know what you mean with the dry airplane air. A good moisturizer is so useful.
What a great list. I can not go without my moisturizer, makeup remover or lip balm, so those are definitely on my must have list as well. I think I am the only person on Earth who has yet to try a Mac product.
I love the makeup wipes idea! I’m always need a face refresher after flying
Hand cream is a must in my books, depending on where we are going my skin tends to get dry really fast. movies and books or my kobo is another few things I must bring with me as well.
Don’t forget the wipes! General cleaning wipes especially if you’re flying. Who know what germs the person before you left behind!
These are great products. I love the makeup remover wipes. They leave my skin soft and clean.
It’s really important to keep up with the new TSA requirement for what you can take in your carry on luggage. I learned all of this last year when I traveled to San Francisco.
I agree with the makeup remover cloths. I keep those in my travel bag all the time! They’re so handy!
As long as they are the right size. I saw a lady having to dump a bottle of perfume over the weekend
I have 3 out of 5 of these products! The Neutrogena wipes are my must have too!
I like the idea of travel makeup wipes. That makes things easier, and easier while you’re out and about is always a good thing.
The Mac Mini Fix sounds like a great product to have on hand for an instant face refresher. I like the TSA-friendly sizes the items come in. Thanks for doing the research for flight requirements so there’s no hassle at the check-in line.
I’d like to try the L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream. I’ve had a different scent before and really liked it. I like too how the tin keeps the lotion cool.
I agree with these! Great items to have handy. I always have a pack of wet wipes with me. They come in handy quite a lot.
Great tips. I don’t travel much and I haven’t flown in ages. Looking to change that so I need to know these things.
I love your five must haves to carry. I will have to make a list and carry now.
I always feel icky when getting off of a plane, so having something to cleanse my skin must be in my bag. The wipes you selected look like a great option.
i totally feel you. I’ve had a few mishaps happen to me after packing up without taking time to consider what im taking with me to that much anticipated vacation. You’ve compiled a great list here, thanks
Great choices for carry on. I love the face wipes.
I’m definitely getting the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment. My lips are so dry right now.
I am sure I would have failed at what I would have brought to fly. Thanks for the heads up.
I haven’t traveled so long by plane I would have most of my stuff thrown away. And with young kids it will probably be a while until I fly.
i def agree that those are great must have. i’m leaving in a few weeks for a business trip. it’s only one night so i’m taking as little as possible.
I agree with all of these! Especially the wipes…I can’t handle wearing makeup on long flights.
I didn’t know that there was a Mini Fix+ for MAC. I need to get one of those!!! I love Neutrogena Makeup Removing Wipes too!
