One thing that is super important when dealing with makeup is taking it off. Not taking your makeup off at the end of each day can do serious damage to your skin. However, just a swipe of a cloth won’t pull everything off of your face as it’s more than likely been sitting in your poors for hours. Here are the five steps that I do to take off all of my makeup at the end of the day.
Maybelline Clean Express Eye Makeup Remover || $4.99 – The first thing that I do is apply some Eye Makeup Remover to a cotton pad and swipe this all over my eyes. There are two things that I look for in an eye makeup remover, first it MUST be oil-free. Having an oil-free eye makeup remover is so important because otherwise you’re face will feel like an oil slick. Secondly, it must be able to remove waterproof mascara. I HATE trying to get waterproof mascara off and having to pull and tug over the delicate skin around my eyes. Maybelline’s Clean Express Eye Makeup Remover is both oil-free and able to pull waterproof makeup off gently.
Neutrogena Makeup Remover Wipes || $6.99 – $8.99 – The next thing that I do is to pull off as much of my face makeup as possible. To do this I use a makeup remover wipe. I try to keep it to just one makeup remover wipe because I know that I have more steps coming up. I use these wipes all over my face to essentially pull off all that setting powder and foundation.
ulep Bare Faced Cleaning Oil || $28.00 – Inevitably there will be makeup left behind on both my eyes, eyebrows, and face so my next step is to bring in a cleansing oil. I currently am using the Julep Bare Faced Cleaning Oil because I love the citrus smell that it has, the fact that it puts nutrients back in my skin, and it is gentle enough to use over my eyes as well.
Philosophy Purity Made Simple Facial Cleanser || $10.00 – $42.00 – For deep pore cleaning I use Philosophy Purity Made Simple Facial Cleanser. This cleanser is great if you are using just your hands or if you are using a facial tool like a Clarisonic. This really cleans deep pulling a lot of that dirt out of my pores.
Embryolisse Lait-Crème ConcentrĂ© || $16.00 – $28.00 – To finish up I put moisture back in my skin with a moisturizer. My current favorite is Embryolisse Moisturizer because it puts tons of moisture back in my skin without feeling heavy or oily.

My Daughter and Granddaughters use the Neutrogena Makeup Remover Wipes. I should too, but end up just using soap and water.
Bekki
I am a huge fan of philosophy!! My daughter is going to be 14 years old in April and we are working on her beauty care routine. Thanks for sharing all the great products! I will be sure to share them with her
Robin (Masshole Mommy)
You know what I use -oil of olay. I distinctly remember my mother telling me when I was a kid that it would keep me from getting wrinkles when I got older and that always just stuck with me.
Carlie
Same! My grandmother and my mother used this (my mom still) and both aged beautifully!!!!
Kendra
I’m terrible when it comes to cleaning my skin. I just use my clarisonic with some face wash in the morning then add some lotion. I really need to move to doing it at night instead.
Theresa
I usually wash my face, then moisturize. Apply makeup. Re moisturize at some point during the day and touch up makeup. Then wash it all off in the evening and put on a night face and eye cream. It takes a lot of work to maintain a youthful appearance, huh?
Debra
I love using make up remover wipes, especially for my eye makeup. Then I slather a bunch of cream on my face and special eye cream around my eyes.
Shell
I love that philosophy face wash. I just wash and then moisturize, except for once a week when I exfoliate and do a mask as well.
Tess
i need to work on cleaning my skin more. I think about keeping it not dry, but thats about all. lol
Krystyn @ Really, Are You Serious?
I have a terrible routine. It’s pretty much non-existent..unless I notice my face feeling dirty or dry. Then I clean or moisturize.
Ange
I can’t imagine using so many cleansing products on my face in one sitting, It would probably take me forever! My current routine includes an eye makeup remover (usually a basic makeup remover wipe), basic cleanse with whichever cleansing product I am trying out and my face brush. Eye gel (a must!), a serum (loving my Lumene Radiance Cocktail) & a moisturizer (which differs from day to night)
Melissa
Great products! I love those Neutrogena wipes.
Jennifer Bullock {MommyBKnowsBest}
I have really sensitive skin, so I love the Simple skin products. I especially like the makeup remover wipes.
Jenni E.
Right now my skin is screaming, “Hydrate me!!!” haha. This winter has just been awful. I keep it simple though, cleanse and moisturize. I really need to look into some anti-aging products!
Liz @ A Nut in a Nutshell
Those are my favorite makeup wipes. I love them especially when I travel and don’t have my liquid facial cleanser.

I’ve never tried a Philosophy product, but I’d like to. I bet my daughter would like this one, especially paired with, like you said, the face scrubber.
Debbie L.
I am hooked on PUffs Face Wipes…they work great for me. Then it is a face lotion from L’Bri – BB Cream from L’Oreal – blushadn mascara Done!
Courtney Pies
I love how you break down skincare routine into 5 steps! I’ve been wanting to try out Philosophy’s products, so I may start out with this facial cleanser!
Pauline Cabrera
Wow! Nice tips and guides. While it can be great to have makeup, we should never forget to remove them properly to keep our skin healthy and beautiful. 🙂
Tracey
I have heard such good things about Embryolisse. I may have to try it out!
brett

Cassie
I was actually using the Mary Kay Eye Makeup Remover until I ran out, that’s why I switched to the Maybelline. I actually keep the Timewise moisturizer in my makeup kit for clients 🙂
Paige
‘I feel like I need a new skin care routine. Maybe I’ll start using some of these products. 🙂
Carly
That face wash is my FAV!
Kenda Smith
I’ve been using Purity for the past 5 years. From the first time I bought it, I was in love. Nothing cleans my skin the same. Feels great!
Autumn
Eye makeup remover is such an important first step, isn’t it? I’m a big fan of facial wipes, too. I’m currently using the seventh generation mandarin ones, but I’ll try out these Neutrogena ones when I run out. It’s always great to try new things!
Brenna
Some great products! The Julep cleanser sounds awesome.
Jamie (Mama.Mommy.Mom.)
I had never really used makeup remover wipes until last fall. A roommate at a conference I attended had some and I fell in love! I’ve admittedly been one of those people who would just roll to bed with makeup on (bad!) and I can tell a huge difference in my skin since I’ve started using cloths and wiping down my face at night.
Kecia
Since I don’t usually wear makeup, my routine is generally a cleanser and moisturizer. I have been looking for a new moisturizer as my current one doesn’t seem to be working well. I am going to look into the Embryolisse.
Krystal
I’m trying to develop a skincare regime, but I always FAIL and forget a step. I’d like to try the Julep actually. Right now I’m just washing my face and using RoC products.
Mandy@ TheHouseholdHero.com
I love using makeup remover wipes, especially on my eyes. I wish I had a better routine though.

Janel
Moisturizer is my #1 essential. My skin is always so dry.
Amy Desrosiers
I’ve been finding out that less is more these days. I use plain shower water, and a good moisturizer. I used mote if a routine like this for my 25 and under days.
Laura
I feel like my skin care routine is so complex now, but it only takes, like, three minutes. But yay for using both cleanser and moisturizer! Lots of people don’t and those are so important!
angela
this morning skin routine looks simple enough. i wash and moisturize daily. i don’t wear makeup most days.
Chrysa
My routine is pretty basic. Just wash and moisturize!
Amanda Love
My routine is really simple. I cleanse and moisturize. I don’t really do anything else besides that. 🙂
Lolo
I need a good moisturizer, I am going to have to try Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré.
April
Philosophy is my favorite! Love your skin care routine. It’s filled with a lot of products I love!
Lisa Thompson
I am fortunate that I’ve always had pretty good skin because I am terrible about taking care of it. If I remember, I use a washcloth and water or an occasional makeup wipe or wet one!
Chelsea
I have that cleansing oil and I keep forgetting to try it! It’s going on my to do list, haha.
