Whelp we made it to the end of August which means it’s that time of month when Julep releases the collection so that Maven‘s can choose to either keep their assigned profile, switch to a different profile, add add-ons, skip for the month, or send their box to a friend.
Julep is a nail polish subscription service that costs $19.99/month and you get a box of either two beauty products, one beauty product and two polishes, or three polishes. If you are interested in signing up for Julep click here.
This month’s theme is Cityscape and going with the motto of big dreams, bright lights, and thoughts of fame this month is spot on. Not only do the polishes capture the theme this month but the products do as well. Keep reading for more details and screen caps.
Modern Beauty
The Modern Beauty box is the one where you get two beauty products. Julep is really trying to jump into their dream of being not only a stop for polish but for beauty and skincare as well. I saw the video for the Bare Face Cleansing Oil and I am very intrigued by this, however, I’m on pins and needles with that primer. The DD cream from a few months back came in a similar type of bottle and was an absolute failure in my opinion so I’m on the fence about that primer.
Boho Glam
The Boho glam box is the first of three which features two polishes and a beauty product. If you’re wanting to know what the difference between these three boxes is I thought I might cover that this month. Boho Mavens are considered free spirits that have a creative eye. The beauty product that comes with the Boho box this month is the cleansing oil and the two polishes are Tatiana and Kristy. As you can see Tatiana is a pretty orangey gold color while Kristy is a navy blue polish.
Bombshell
The Bombshell box is the second of the three beauty product/nail polish combos. Bombshell Mavens are considered confidant and have a “magnetic appeal.” As before the beauty product is the cleansing oil but the polishes are a different matter. Karmen is a red polish with golden flecks which again has me on pins and needles. This reminds me a lot of Bunny but man that one just wound up being a flat white polish with NO flecks of glitter. Daria is a mid grey polish. I do have to say that while these two colors are gorgeous I don’t see them being polishes that would go well together.
Classic with a Twist
The Classic with a Twist box is the last of the product/polish combos. As you can see it also comes with the cleansing oil and two polishes that seem to go very well together. Why do they always partner gorgeous colors that I love with colors that I think would look crappy on me? Padma is a GORGEOUS deep purple polish, while Florence is a very very very pale pinkey color. Pale pinks are always lost with my skin tone {sigh}.
It Girl
The It Girl box is the one that comes with three polish, this box is usually the one that straight up polish junkies go for {cough}. This month though me and It Girl are having a lovers tiff. The three polishes in this months box are an Catrina, an orangey yellow, Candace, a brown glitter, and Josephine, a tealey grey. I’m sorry but Catrina and Candace are just not my cup of tea soooo I’m going to be cheating on It Girl this month, this makes me a sad panda.
Full Upgrade
I don’t know why Julep doesn’t include the featured add-ons in the FULL upgrade, that really gets my goat. I LOVE Julep but that is my one complaint. It’s not like if we upgrade we get four bottles (four of the boxes have the cleansing oil) of the oil so they could throw in the featured add-ons for that month for the price of the upgrade. If the full upgrade had included Reece and the sponge I’d have been all over that baby.
Featured Add-On 1
The first featured add-on this month is Reece which is GORG-GORG-GORGEOUS and looking at the swatches it really does remind me of a starry skyline. Just a heads-up, this WILL be in my collection at the end of the month.
Featured Add-On 2
The second featured add-on is this sponge that works with the cleansing oil. I’m sorry but this should have come with the cleansing oil and while it looks awesome I don’t think I’m going to be paying $8 for it.
