I have a surprise for y’all today. Instead of having the weekly recap today we’re going to have an interview and a giveaway. Yup you read that right an interview and a GIVEAWAY. First things first the interview…the hubs started a new blog, The Load Screen, a few days ago and I wanted to give him a taste of what it’s going to be like trying to grow a blog. One of the big things about getting your name out there is by sponsoring a bigger blog, introducing yourself to their audience, and trying to get them to like you enough to want to follow you. Oh and free stuff never hurt right. So at the end of this interview you’ll find a giveaway for a $20 gift card to either GameStop or Steam (winner gets to choose which one.)
Without further ado here’s the hubs telling you why he chose The Load Screen, what his favorite game memory is, what one game he’d choose if he could only play one, and more.
What is the name of your blog?
The name of my blog is “The Load Screen”
What do you blog about?
I blog about video games. Video games have fascinated me my entire life. I’ve watched them grow from the simple yet difficult 8-bit era to the epic pieces of storytelling of today.
Why did you choose that name?
The name is inspired by the load screens every gamer has to sit through as a new area/level is loaded during a video game.
What is your favorite video game memory?
My favorite video game memory is the day my parents bought me my first NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) when I was a child. My parents had been looking for a NES for weeks. They even tried to get me to settle on a used Commodore 64. Unfortunately, the system stopped working when we got it home. By some miracle, my parents were finally able to track down a NES. My father hooked it up that night and we played to almost midnight, taking turns playing “Super Mario Bros.” and “Duck Hunt.” That was amazing enough for a kid that had a strict 9PM bedtime. The next day, on one of the very few days off that my father got, he woke me up at 6AM so we could start playing again. We played straight through lunch, not even stopping, and barely stopped for dinner. It was the most fun I ever had as a kid. To this day I cannot hear the level 1-1 theme of “Super Mario Bros.” without thinking about it.
What is your favorite game?

Via Wikipedia
My favorite game is “The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past,” which originally was released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. (SNES) It has since been released on the Game Boy Advance and the Wii Virtual Console. I have played the game many times over the year and literally know all of its secrets. However, I could start playing it know and feel the same way I did when I first put that cartridge into my SNES. It just has some kind of magic hold over me that few games have been able to match over the years.
If you could meet with one game designer, who would it be?
If I could meet one game designer, it would be Shigeru Miyamoto without a doubt. The man is a living legend. He is the creator of Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong… the man almost single-handedly saved the video game industry. If not for his “Super Mario Bros.” I would have nothing to blog today.
What one question would you ask him?
If I could ask him a question, I would ask him if he knew the impact that Mario and Zelda would have not only on the video game industry but pop culture as a whole. There are people that don’t play video games that will recognize Mario or the opening bars of The Legend of Zelda theme. I just wonder if he had any idea what they would become.
If you could only play one game for the rest of your life what would it be?
This is such a hard question. There have been so many games that I have loved over the years. If I had to narrow it down to just one… off hand, I would go with “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.” It is a classic RPG from BioWare that I have played many times before, but I alway manage to find something new. I feel like I could probably play it 100 or more times and never hear every possible bit of dialogue or see the effects of every little choice. If I could play an entire series, it would be “Mass Effect,” (also from BioWare) but since I can only pick one, KOTOR is a better standalone choice.
There you have it, a brief look into what gaming means to him. For a more in depth look head over to his blog, he also does editorial pieces, news, and reviews.
I love all the Super Mario Brothers but my favorite was Super Mario Brothers 3. It was just beyond cool when it came out and my husband and I broke it out about a year ago and had a BLAST playing it.
I absolutely adore Super Mario Bros. 3! I remember I was so excited for the game when it came out, I called stores everyday for almost a month asking if they had it in stock. I made my mother drive me all the way across town just to get it when Sears finally had it in stock! And it was worth it 😀
I love Mario Kart! haha. I’m totally entering this for Forrest (and directing him to your husband’s blog) He would be SO excited to win.
I’ve always loved Mario Kart myself. I have actually played every iteration of the series, except for the arcade game they released in Japan. (Although I wish they could license Pac-Man from Namco for the home versions like they did the arcade version, lol) Which system do you prefer it on?
I’d so be entering this for my BF if it was open to Canada! PS- you two are so cute. How adorable is your little fam in the first pic!
ZOMG you are so going to be my go to person for Canadian rules. The only reason I didn’t make it open to International was because I didn’t know if you would have access to a GameStop or Steam. I’m totally a ditz sometimes. BUT a group giveaway just went live on my blog that is worldwide (if you aren’t already participating in it LOL)
I don’t know how the GameStop gift card would work as I believe they still go buy EB Games in Canada, but I would imagine a Steam gift card would work if you would still like to enter and are interested in PC games 😀
From what I’ve seen of Shigeru Miyamoto, he would be an amazing person to meet. Whenever I’ve seen a interview or documentary about him, he is nothing but positive and friendly. He simply used his imagination and games he thought up as a child to create many of the iconic games we hold dear today and I find that really inspiring.
The only game I am good at is Burnout. I am good at crashing. lol
I can’t hate on that one. Burnout is an awesome series.
I like Pokemon…..?
i just busted out my original nintendo and was looking through all my old games. remember karnov or maniac mansion? also, kid icarus is an all time favorite.
You have me at a loss on Karnov. But Maniac Mansion and Kid Icarus I know well! I was always more of a Mario and Mega Man fan on the NES it seems like though 🙂
Mario kart is my favorite game.
Fallout3 GOTY! Open world game, for the first time
thanks for the chance!
