Keurig Hot Chocolate

One of the things that I love about Fall is the cool weather. I love the cool weather because it means people drink coffee more. Now I LOVE the smell of coffee, when Travis makes a fresh cup of coffee you can usually find it in my hands and I’m sniffing it (I think this is an addiction but don’t tell anyone shhhh), I absolutely HATE the taste of it.

On the other hand, I love love love (to much?) hot chocolate. There is one thing I hate about hot chocolate though…it never comes out the right temperature when I make it in the microwave. It always comes out lukewarm (boo). I was so glad when we got our Keurig Brewer and they came out with the Hot Chocolate K-cups, until I tried them. Oh my gosh, dis-gusting. Until the other night when I came up with this.

So this is instant hot chocolate but done with a Keurig Machine. It’s super easy and after you read this post you will thank me for it. That is of course if you aren’t already doing this nifty little trick.

The first thing that you want to do is make sure that there are NO k-cups left in your machine. In my house people always leave the hot ones in there and the next person throws it away. You need your holder to be completely empty.

Now all you are going to do is close the holder with NOTHING in it. Yep that’s right nothing in it. Your machine will tell you after a second that it’s ready to brew. You want to brew a cup of just plain water. Now this isn’t for your hot chocolate yet. This one is to get all the loose grounds that get backed-up into your machine out. Depending on how often you make this, or use this method to clean your Keurig, will be how many times you need to brew the water. The first time I did this I had to do four cups, dumping the hot water after each brew, but this time I just needed to do one since Travis had just made a cup of coffee. Essentially you need to do it until you have clear water with no grounds. You will also need to open and close the lid to the holder after each one to reset the screen telling you that you can’t brew yet.

After you brew the last one, your next one will be the one you are going to need for your hot chocolate. So before you brew this cup you need to select your cup. If I’m wanting a lot of hot chocolate then I go for the bigger cup and use two packets of chocolate. I have found that for my machine the one below the middle cup with one packet gives me a good amount with out being to sweet or to watered down.

Once your have chosen your size and brewed your water take your packet(s) of whichever hot chocolate you are using. Pour the mix into the cup and mix well with a spoon.

If you wish you can top with whipped cream.

And there you guys have it. HOT chocolate from your k-cup machine. Enjoy 🙂

Good idea, almost makes me wish we still had a Keurig. I like them but the price of K-cups has gotten outrageous.
