When the Hourglass Caution Mascara released a little while back I was extremely interested in it. I liked the packaging, the wand, and the formula looked great as well. However, Hourglass being a high end brand has been out of my budget for awhile now. Until Sephora released one of their favorite sets again that happened to include the Caution Mascara. Did it live up to my expectations? Keep reading to find out!
About Hourglass Caution Mascara
The full-size Hourglass Caution Mascara has 0.33 oz. or 9.4 grams of product there is also a travel size Caution Mascara that has 0.19 oz. of product. The Caution Mascara comes with a 4D Amplifier Brush which is two brushes in one that give volume, length, and lift while saturating the lashing from root-to-tip in one stroke. The Caution Mascara retails for $29.00 for the full-size and $14.00 for the travel size and can be purchased at many stores but most notably Sephora and Nordstrom, other stores can be gotten to via the links above!
Hourglass claims that the Caution Mascara formula is ultra-black, smooth, buildable, and weightless. They also claim that the wand, mentioned above, perfectly coats the lashes without transferring and that it is tapered in such a way to reach the small lashes. They also claim that it can be easily removed with soap and water.
Hourglass Caution Mascara Review
Before we get into the formula, the wand, and all that jazz let’s talk about that last claim, the one that says “easily removed with soap and water”… I know this is probably me just splitting hairs but I HATE that that is one of their claims. There is a better way of phrasing that it’s easily removable with makeup remover or whatever than to say soap and water. Somebody somewhere is seriously going to take a bar of Dial, Lever, or something like that and just rub it between their hands and go to town on their eyeballs. I, personally, would also never classify makeup remover as soap to the general market…well actually to anyone so the fact that Hourglass which is a high end brand did that is just super annoying. /endrant.
Now that we have that out of my system let’s talk about the Hourglass Caution Mascara as a whole. I can honestly say that every claim, except the soap one!, is spot on! The formula is ultra black, gives great length, lift, and volume to the lashes. I was able to apply, even with my bad eyesight, to both the top and bottom lashes without getting it under my eye, on top of my eye, or on my nose and I usually hit at least one of those spots each time I apply mascara to myself. As for the longevity of the Caution Mascara, I wore this for about 8 hours before having issues. HOWEVER, I also went swimming and took a shower in this non-waterproof mascara in that time and had no smudging or flaking. I wouldn’t say that it’s waterproof or swim proof but I didn’t have any issues with it. In the photo above I’m wearing one coat of the Caution Mascara on my right eye (the left side of the picture) and did not curl my lashes.
Final Thoughts on Hourglass Caution Mascara
Overall, I actually loved the Caution Mascara. How much you ask? Oh enough that it is now my #1 on my list of favorite mascaras! *gasp* I highly recommend you try this mascara out, especially if you can get it in a bundle like the Sephora Favorites or in the travel size.

I’ve decided that mascara is so darn personal Most people don’t like the ones I like.. I’m so glad you had good luck with this one from Hourglass! I hated it and ended up throwing it away. Isn’t that the way?
I think this one would be good for me because that brush looks so perfect for grabbing all of the lashes. I also like the shape of the tube. It’s so unique.
I’m currently using a mini that I got from Sephora in a promotion. I do like it and am glad I’ve had the chance to use it. At the moment I have way too many mascaras that I need to wear first but I think I’d buy it on sale in the future.
I have a snack size of this mascara floating around here. I really should haul it out and give it a go.
looks like it does a good job of bringing out those lower lashes!
You got impressive results! I want to try it.
I think I had a sample of this, but I can’t find it!
This is my very favorite mascara! I absolutely love it.
I love Hourglass! I tried this one before and really liked it.
