The first day of Spring was at the end of March and the first day of Summer is in June. That means that April is the perfect time to get your hair Spring and Summer ready. I bet you’re reading that thinking, “I don’t really need to do anything to get my hair ready.” Before starting Cosmetology school, I would have said the same thing. However, now that I’ve started to learn about hair and have started working with it, I can tell you that there are some things that need to be done in order to get your hair in the best condition for Spring and Summer.
Step One: Hydrate
Coming out of winter, there’s a good chance that your hair has gotten dry and damaged, especially if you were using a blow dryer on a regular basis. The first thing that you need to do is to get your hair back in good condition. To do that, I suggest using the Garnier Whole Blends Shampoo, Conditioner, and treatment. For my hair, I decided to use the Garnier Whole Blends Hydrating line which includes a shampoo, conditioner, and hydrating mask. I personally like these because they are formulated with ingredients to deeply nourish and hydrate. The Garnier Whole Blends Hydrating line uses coconut water and vanilla milk to leave the hair quenched and softened.
Step Two: Trim Edges
The next thing that I suggest doing after you’ve hydrated your hair is to go get a trim. I know that during the colder months I don’t like to go to the salon as often so one of the things that gets put to the side is keeping up with trimming off my dead ends. One of the disadvantages of not cutting off the dead ends when they appear is that they can travel up the hair shaft causing the whole strand to shed where the damage ends. As soon as the weather starts warming up, get back into the habit of attending your regular trimming sessions with your stylist!
Step Three: Add a New Color
While you’re at the salon, now might be a good time to try out a new color for Spring and Summer. We actually just started learning how to do foil highlights and the change that it brings to the hair is amazing. If you have hair that is one color and you want to add some dimension and movement to it without having to style it every day, seriously consider adding highlights to the hair. This will give the illusion of movement without having to add curls and waves in everyday. This is the perfect for solution for moms or students who don’t have a lot of time to style their hair in the mornings!
Step Four: Try a New Style
Also, while you’re at the salon, consider a new style for Spring and Summer. If you were growing your hair out for the colder months, consider cutting a few extra inches past the trimming point to shorten it up for the warmer months.
Step Five: Protect from Sun
Lastly, to get your hair Spring and Summer ready, use a sun protectant on your hair. Chemicals and sun rays damage the hair just like they damage the skin so you need to be protecting it as well. There are some products on the market that are meant to be sun protectants for the hair, however, they can be a bit hard to find. I have found that taking 1 – 2 teaspoons of a sunscreen that you already have and putting it into a mist bottle with about a 1/2 cup of water does the same thing. Just make sure to shake very well before applying and make sure that you use a clarifying shampoo afterwards.
Those are my five tips to get your hair Spring and Summer ready. If you’re interested in trying ANY of the Garnier Whole Blends line, you can pick them up at any Walmart. Some stores will have a display in center aisle of the Hair & Beauty Department, but, if your Walmart doesn’t have that, then it should be down the regular hair care aisle.
I never would have thought that I would have to get my hair ready for the summer, so thank you for this information. I’ve been thinking about doing something different with my hair color, but just can’t commit to anything just yet! I guess I’ll start there and then move on to adding sunscreen to my hair (who knew?!).
Just remember to use a clarifying shampoo afterwards so it does clog up your hair cuticle.
Such great tips! I always feel better after a fresh trim and color. And these Whole Blends smell so good! [client]
The entire line of Whole Blends smell amazing!
Love the curls! I agree hydration is very important. Frequent trimmings and a new color is also a great way to freshen up your warm weather look! Thank you🤗💕✨🌟
Yep, I love the Garnier brand. I use a lot of their skin care as well as hair products. I haven’t tried these products as of yet though. I’ll have to look for them, My girls might like them too.
I never know that the sun does damage to your hair. This is the first time I’m read that and it makes perfect sense. These are some great tips. I really must try this Whole Blends product line
I am way overdue for a cut, but I am growing it out and fear the stylist will chop off too much! Going to have to get over that soon because my layers are a mess. The Garnier products sound really nice- I’ll keep an eye out for them.
Just make sure that you are very vocal, in a nice way, and tell your stylist exactly what you want and DON’T want. Make sure you’re going to a reputable salon if you’re afraid of that. Don’t get me wrong cheaper places can have good stylists but there’s a reason you’re only paying $12 for haircut as opposed to paying $30+ at a more reputable salon. Lastly, make sure you keep an eye on what your stylist is doing. I know we all either love to relax, read, or chat when we’re getting our hair done and that’s all great but make sure that you occasionally pay attention to where they’re at on your head. If you only want your sides to come to mid ear and you feel them at the top of your ear STOP them!
I just tried the same blend and loved it! My curly hair didn’t need any additional product for combing out, which is saying something! I love that tip for DIY hair sunscreen – I never thought about my hair needing sun protection before, but it makes sense.
My hair is super fine, which means it tangles at the drop of the hat, so I usually have to have an additional product for detangling after I shampoo my hair. I didn’t need one with these either!
I just changed up my hair style and chopped off eight inches for Spring. It felt so good to spice things up! Now I really need to get on a better routine using products since I am starting to use my flat iron and curling iron more. I want to keep my hair as protected and healthy as possible–will definitely look into Garnier’s options!
Eight inches is a big change! You’ll be able to get a lot of good looks with a flat iron without those eight inches!
I just had a hair trim last weekend and I’m loving my new hair length and style right now. It’s more appropriate for the summer. I also have to recolor my hair roots because of the obvious regrowth.
I need to do all of these things. I need a trim, and to hydrate … everything. You’re so right about the winter and chemicals drying out your hair. I’m going to follow your advice and get my hair beach perfect!
I love Garnier products so I would be willing to try this line. I actually need to make an appointment for the hairdresser…I was thinking of getting coloured streaks in my hair.
Are you going for dramatic color like a hot pink or bright blue? Or more natural like brown or red?
I have been wanting to try this line! Your hair looks amazing. I know that I need to do some work to get my hair back ready for Spring and Summer from the damage of the Winter season.
