It’s the third Tuesday of the month so that means it’s time for the Liteary Junkes Linkup. The Literary Junkies is a book club that is hosted by Taylor and Lesley in which each month we have a book that we read and we discuss it on GoodReads and on Twitter. We also do this monthly linkup, however, even non-book club members can join in! If you are interested in joining the book club send me an email to cassie(at)southeastbymidwest(dot)com and I’ll get you in contact with Taylor. Lets jump straight into the questions, shall we?
What are you currently reading? Tell Us About It
At this month I’m currently reading Let the Dead Sleep by Heather Graham. It’s the book that we will be discussing in the Literary Junkies book club. Here is the GoodReads synopsis of the book:
“It was stolen from a New Orleans grave — the centuries-old bust of an evil man, a demonic man. It’s an object desired by collectors — and by those with wickedness in their hearts.
One day, its current owner shows up at Danni Cafferty’s antiques shop on Royal Street, the shop she inherited from her father. But before Danni can buy the statue, it disappears, the owner is found dead…and Danni discovers that she’s inherited much more than she realized. In the store is a book filled with secret writing: instructions for defeating evil entities. She’d dismissed it as a curiosity…until the arrival of this statue, with its long history of evil and even longer trail of death.
Michael Quinn, former cop and now private investigator, is a man with an unusual past. He believes that doing the right thing isn’t a job — it’s a way of life. And the right thing to do is find and destroy this object weighted with malevolent powers. He an Danni are drawn together in their search for the missing statue, following it through sultry New Orleans nights to hidden places in French Quarter and secret ceremonies on abandoned plantations.
Cafferty and Quinn already know that trust in others can be misplaced, that love can be temporary. And yet their connection is primal. Mesmerizing. They also know that their story won’t end when this case is closed and the dead rest in peace once again.”
Autumn is coming! What’s your go-to drink when curling up with a book at night?
My go to drink when curling up with a book in the fall/winter is hot chocolate. I’m not a bit coffee drinker nor a hot tea drinker (although I’m wanting to try to get into the tea) so the only warm drink that I actually like is hot chocolate. Ohhh and in the early part of autumn I love hot apple cider!!
Printed books vs e-books. What are the pros and cons of each?
Wow this is a great question! I actually like both printed and ebooks but if given the option I would choose print over ebooks. Here is my mini list of pros and cons for ebooks:
Pros of Ebooks:
- Able to get a book instantly
- If have a backlit device can read without any light needed
- A lot of ereaders now have apps that let you take your books from device to device
- Libraries now offer digital libraries that you can check books out of for free instantly
Cons of Ebooks:
- Number of libraries that offer digital selections is limited
- Number of selections that digital libraries offer is limited
- Device can run out of battery and then you are without a book
- Ereaders can be expensive
Buying books vs. library books. Which do you prefer, why?
For me it depends on the book. There are some books that I would rather check out as opposed to purchasing because I know that I will never read them again. Library books also let me “try before I buy” with some books that I’m on the fence about. However, a book that I know that I’m going to love or want to read over-and-over I will purchase without hesitation.

Mmm, hot apple cider. Now I really want some! And I love the way you listed the pros and cons of ebooks. I own a Kindle but I only use it while I’m traveling. It is super convenient and there are lots of features I like, but I still prefer print books as well.

I don’t do coffee either, so it’s usually hot chocolate, chai tea lattes, hot apple cider or hot tea (of the fruit variety or the cinnamon variety). 🙂 I also prefer a physical copy of a book to read, but I do like the convenience of either having my Kindle or my Kindle app on my phone with me at all times. So if I get stuck waiting somewhere I always have a book on the ready to read. 🙂
