Literary Junkies: Summer Reads

I know that it’s been awhile since I’ve participated in a Literary Junkies linkup but I thought I’d give it another go this month. As it’s the third Tuesday of the month it’s that time again.

Pink Heels Pink Truck

1. What are you currently reading? Tell us about it.

To be honest I’m not really reading anything at the moment. I’ve been trying to reread The Great Gatsby in preparation of seeing the movie but I keep getting distracted. I’m going to be starting The Silver Linings Playbook for the Literary Junkies Book Club.

2. What are your top 3 favorite summer reads?

I don’t really have books that I read every summer. I do have genres that I read depending on what I’m doing at that point in the summer. For example, if I’m at the beach or pool (which we now have one in the backyard so YAY!) I like to read a good romance. On the other hand if a good summer storm is brewing I like a good mystery or dramatic book.

3. What are your top 3 summer to-reads?

The three books that I’m wanting to read before the end of summer are Big Girl Panties by Stephanie Evanovich, Ladies Night by Mary Kay Andrews, and Dead Ever After (the latest in the Sookie Stackhouse series) by Charlaine Harris

4. What book do you wish they’d make a movie of?

{Via}
The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde hands down should be made into a movie. I thought at first that I would not like this book because of it’s alternative look at literature and history but once I started reading it, I LOVED it. The book is set in an alternate Britian where time travel is the norm and the novel Jane Eyre actually ends with her leaving with her cousin instead of going back to Mr. Rochester. As a mater-of-fact Thursday, the main character in the novel, ventures into the novel in order to not only save Mr. Rochester but Jane Eyre herself. It’s a great book that if done correctly would make a great movie.

5. Has your favorite author published a book lately or are they going to?

I have so many favorite authors it isn’t even funny. But no I don’t think that my main favorite author has a book coming out anytime soon. I know that’s super vague lol.

What book do you think would make a great movie?

As usual I’m linking up with Taylor and Lesley.

This makes me want to dive into a good book. I have got to work in more time for enjoying things like that.

OK, I have totally been wanting to start the Sookie Stackhouse books! And I love Janet Evanovich, is she related to Stephanie? I thought about reading The Great Gatsby, but I saw the original movie with Robert Redford a few weeks ago, and well it’s rather depressing! I don’t read nearly as much as I’d like to. I need to schedule some reading time by the pool this summer!

Love me some Mary Kay Andrews!! I think I’m obsessed. 😉 LOL Have you read her first series under her real name? Kathy Trocheck? I’ve read the first book and loved it!

You to-read list is really great. I haven’t heard of the first two but I have definitely heard of the last. I’ve read the first nine and I can’t wait to finish the series even though it will be a little sad. I’m definitely looking up the other two and the Jane Eyre rip-off. That one sounds really interesting and I love Jane Eyre to begin with. I hope Lesley and Taylor and The Longest Ride to the list too! Maybe we can start a campaign 🙂

I’ve only read Charlaine Harris, I’ve never read the other two. If I’m able to get them and read them I’ll have to let you know how I like them 🙂

Brenna you’re going to have to duplicate yourself or something with all the stuff that you try to do! However, I have found that the three best times for book reading are bath, pool, and car trips.

I actually didn’t know the answer to this question so I had to go look it up. It turns out that Janet Evanovich is a pen name for Steffie Hall (I think is her real name) but yes they are related, Janet is Stephanie’s aunt. Also, you should totally start the Sookie books, currently I’m loving those way more than the tv show.

:O I can’t believe that you never had to read The Great Gatsby in high school. It’s such a great book you should give it a try…very depressing though. Big Girl Panties is the name of her book that’s either about to come out or just came out, I can’t remember which.

I’m sad for the day that she finally ends the series…this isn’t the end is it? I think I saw someone mention somewhere that it was. The thought makes me a sad panda 🙁

I’ve never read anything by Mary Kay Andrews or her alter ego but now I’m looking forward to reading a book from both lol.

I was so afraid of The Eyre Affair at first as Jane Eyre is one of my favorite books of all time. I went in totally thinking I was going to hate the book and the author but it actually wasn’t that bad, far fetched but good. I can’t wait to read the next in the series.

Stopping by from the Literary Junkie Link Up! I have to admit, I just couldn’t get into the Sookie Stackhouse series. I used to watch True Blood religiously and enjoyed that-but I just couldn’t get into the books for some reason. I know a lot of people love them-I guess I am just strange!
