I’ll admit it…this post is super duper late. How late? Well I received my bag before Valentines Day, that’s how late. BUT, I do have a good reason. I was trying to decide how I felt about this bag. I’ll get into all of that throughout the post
The Bag
To start out with the bag is a vinylly leather type material. As you can see it reflects images fairly well. I’ve seen a lot of people complaining about the bag, how it was bland and cheap, but the bag is actually the one thing that I liked from the beginning.
This is the inside of the bag, as you can hopefully see, is a bright red with the typical Ipsy logo. I really enjoyed this black vinyl with red combination as it felt not only as if it had to do with Valentines Day, besides a bag with hearts would have been so cliche and expected, but it felt very Va-Va-Voom. Which I felt tied in with their “Red Carpet Ready” theme.
The Mascara
This is one item where I can say from the beginning I loved it. I love trying out new mascara’s so having another new one to test out is great.
As you can see the “shade” of this one is called “Smokey Lash Kapow” I don’t know if it necessarily does all that but it was fairly good.
I did love this wand though, it was great for putting on mascara without getting clumps. The formula was great as well. I might actually have to buy some more of this.
The Lash Cards
This was one of the products that had me hesitating on this bag, for many reasons. The first reason is that I wear glasses and am practically blind without them so to put on my eye makeup I have to be super close to the mirror, the arm acrobatics that I have to do to use these just isn’t worth it. On top of that the founder of Ipsy, Michelle Phan, actually did a Youtube video back in 2009 using this same method of keeping mascara from getting on the skin with a business card. So why pay money for it?
The Eye Shadow
There were actually two samples of these that went out, this set and a set that was grays and a white. I have to say that I am glad that I got this one and if I had gotten the other one I probably wouldn’t entertain ever getting Coastal Scents shadows. That being said I did a great glittery smokey eye with these on Valentines Day and LOVED it, really made my eyes pop.
Now this part was great for me since I loved so many of the colors, I can go to the website (which is also printed on the back) and know exactly what I’m looking for. Remember this because I’ll be bringing it back up later.
The Primer
I wasn’t to excited about this product either since my first bag had a primer and I don’t typically need face primer. As a result I haven’t used this yet so I can’t really give an opinion on it. From what I have seen from other Ipsy reveals this product is a high end drug store brand as it IS sold at Target but it is a bit expensive.
One of the turnoffs of this product, besides the high price, is the fact that it seems to be a tinted primer. That could potentially really throw off the shade of my foundation.
The Gel Eyeliner
I know a lot of people were excited to get a gel eyeliner but at first I wasn’t because I don’t use it that often, read ever. On top of that this is a full size product EXCEPT for the fact that it doesn’t come with the brush that these come with if you purchase them from the company. I mean was it that difficult to include the freakin brush?
Then after some thinking and looking at the product several times I decided that it wasn’t that bad. While it wasn’t a great inclusion for me personally, there are still a lot of people that use gel eyeliners and would have been happy to get this in their bags. That not including the brush thing was still annoying but whatevs.
And then this happened. What the heck Mica Beauty/Ipsy! So now we’re so cheap that not only could we not include the brush that comes with the eyeliner but we can’t include a freaking piece of sticky paper that tells us how much this is, what’s in it, and the color? I mean obviously it’s black but I kind of want to know if I go to their site and pay $30 for the eyeliner will it be this size? Or did they make the sample a bit bigger to make-up for the fact that they didn’t include the brush? Also, what if I’m allergic to an ingredient that some companies use in their makeup? I’m actually allergic to latex and while I don’t think this will have any in it, it would be nice to know for sure before I put it on my freaking eyeballs. Lastly, when I went to look at their site I did notice that the brown shade and bronze were similar and both were randomly sent to people so they have no way of confirming what shade they got. I found this to be poor judgement on both Mica Beauty and Ipsy’s parts.
The End
There we go, that is what I got in my February 2013 Ipsy Bag. While I wasn’t 100% thrilled with this bag, in comparison to my experience with Birchbox and what I saw in the February 2013 Birchbox reveals it wasn’t horrible. In other words, this doesn’t make me want to cancel my subscription…yet. I’m watching you Ipsy *gives mock glare*
