Grey’s Anatomy: As Bad as Private Practice?

BlogButton

Last week I talked about Season 6 of Private Practice and the series finale. This week I’m going to continue my waltz through Shondaland for the second out of three shows of hers that I watch.

Here’s my take on Season 9 of Grey’s Anatomy

Recap:

This season of Grey’s picked-up where last season left off, the plane crash. However, this is done by moving them forward in the timeline a bit and then flashing back to what happened. So what did happen? Well lets see:

  • Lexie died
  • Mark kept dying at the crash site but they were able to keep him alive until they were rescued
  • Mark does better for a brief bit before he slips into a coma. He signs a form that only lets him be on a life support for a brief time before the plug is pulled…they have to pull the plug and Mark Sloan dies.
  • Arizona’s leg was killing her, literally killing her not “Oh my leg is cramping just a wee bit” kind of killing her, so Callie and Alex made the decision to cut it off. She now blames them for crippling her.
  • Callie performed surgery on Derek’s hand but it’s not completely fixed so they plan to do a cutting edge surgery to fix it. This cutting edge surgery involves taking a nerve from a relative which means we get to meet another of the Shepherd sisters in the form of Lizzie (played wonderfully by Neve Cambell)
  • Christina had PTSD and moved to Minnesota where she started out being annoyed by an older heart surgeon but who she came to care for with-in a few episodes. Sadly, he passed away which sent her running back to Seattle and to Meredith. Oh and did I mention she was screwing her boss? No? Well she was.
  • Speaking of Mer, she has grown a lot in the past few years. She has handled Lexie and Mark’s deaths well, at first she was tense around Lizzie but she warmed up to her and she was actually the third (Mer was first and Derek was second) person to find out about Mer being preggers. Yup you read that right, Meredith and her “hostile uterus” are hosting a baby.

That pretty much catches us up to the most recent episodes where the survivors are suing the plane company for the crash… only the lawyers think that they have a better chance of actually seeing money if they instead sue the hospital. Owen wants the victims to win because he blames himself so he divorces Christina so that can’t be used against them (even though they’ve pretty much hooked back-up {does happy dance since they’re my fave couple}). The survivors win and are awarded 15 million dollars… each. The last episode ends with Owen attending a board meeting and finding out that in order to pay this money the hospital will have to declare bankruptcy and close its doors.

My Thoughts:

So far I’m enjoying Grey’s this season, in my opinion it has been one of their better seasons. I’m interested in how the bankruptcy/court case will wind-up playing out, I’m interested in seeing if this new intern that Alex is hanging out with will wind-up being his “happily ever after”, and I’m interested in seeing if the show will continue after next season since at the end of last season the main cast only signed two year contracts.

My Rating:

4 out of 5 stars

Next week I’ll finish Shondaland with Scandal
