December 2013 Birchbox Reveal on southeastbymidwest.com

My Birchbox‘s just keep getting better and better! After several great boxes I’m torn between not knowing why I cancelled my subscription in the first place and knowing that sooner or later I’m going to get a box that I’m not fond of. However, December’s box isn’t that box, actually this month’s box is one of my favorites!

About Birchbox:

Birchbox is a sample program where for $10/month you get four-five beauty or lifestyle samples.

The Box:

December Birchbox Shipping Box on southeastbymidwest.com

To start off with, Birchbox‘s usually come in a pink outer box with the little brown box inside, but this months was different. This month the little brown box was wrapped in a gold outer box imprinted with Happy Holidays on it. It was an extra little step that made getting this month’s box even better.

However, Birchbox didn’t just stop at the outer wrapper even this month’s inner box was different than it usually is. The outside of this month’s box was embossed with “Sparkle and Shine” and the inner stripes, that are normally navy blue, were gold foil.

Sample One:

Number 4 Non-Aerosol Hairspray from December Birchbox on southeastbymidwest.com

The first sample that I received in this months Birchbox was for a non-aerosol hairspray. This hairspray claims to not leave your hair with that crunchy feeling opting instead for a more forgiving hold. I don’t ever use hairspray so this will head to the “Other” pile.

Sample Two:

Color Club Dark n Stormy from December Birchbox on southeastbymidwest.com

The second sample in my box was for a Color Club nail polish in Dark n Stormy from the Cocktail Hour Collection. Color Club nail polishes are often featured by Birchbox and as nail polish addict I was happy to see this. I applied this while at the hospital with Travis and it lasted for the two weeks we were there without chipping.

Sample Three:

Harvey Prince Perfume from December Birchbox on southeastbymidwest.com

I’ve heard great things about this perfume so I was excited to see it in my box. Sadly, it lives up to the hype and is a nice light floral with a hint of citrus scent. I could totally use this as an everyday perfume, which is why I said sadly. The full size of this perfume is $55 which makes it out of my price range.

Sample Four:

Embryolisse Moisturizer from December Birchbox on southeastbymidwest.com

As soon as I saw this in the sneak peak video I KNEW I wanted to get it in my box. I was not disappointed and as soon as I saw this little box in my box I did a happy dance. While the sample size was small there was enough there for me to get a feel for how I felt about it. Let me tell you, this moisturizer lives up to the hype as well.

The Find:

Ahmad Assorted Fruit Teas from December Birchbox on southeastbymidwest.com

I had two non beauty items in my box the first of which were these three teas. Now I will start out with the fact that I am a Southern Girl through-and-through which means that A. I like my tea non-flavored B. I like my tea cold not hot and C. I like my tea SWEET. The two flavored teas will be given to my husband and I guess I’ll try the regular one some time or other.

Extra Item

Birchbox Digimate from December Birchbox on southeastbymidwest.com

The second non-beauty item in my box this month was a Birchbox branded Digimate. This was a way for them to promote their app while providing a cute little token for their customers. Essentially this is a little sticker that you put on the back of your phone and you can use the other side to clean you phone screen. Pretty cool.

Value

Number 4 Non-Aerosol Hairspray  – $4.50

Color Club Cocktail Hour Nail Polish in Dark N’ Stormy – $3.73

Harvey Prince Hello Perfume – $1.65

Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré – $1.87

Ahmad Teas – $0.53

My box cost me $10 and I received $12.28  worth of products.

New Feature:

I’m going to be doing something new from now on when it comes to my Birchbox. Each month I will choose one item from my box to upgrade. Come back on the 10th of the next month to find out what item I chose to upgrade for that month. Therefore the item that I chose to upgrade for December’s box will be revealed on January 10th.

I have yet to order Birchbox but I am thinking it will be like Christmas every month of the year. I love that perfume. I’m like you, I’m not much of a perfume buyer and $55 is certainly a bit steep but sometimes I will step out of my comfort zone if I really like something.

The Birch box is a great way to try out a multitude of new beauty products without breaking the bank. The perfume and moisturizer sounds wonderful. I will have to check them out. My daughter wants to try the tea. Thanks for the tip.
