Not to long ago I got introduced to Jeffree Star products, check out my haul here, and since then I’ve wanted to try his eye shadow palette. Then he announced he was releasing a second palette and I got even more excited, however, money was tight so I knew I would be waiting on getting either of the palettes. Imagine my surprise when a delivery arrived at the door with both of the Jeffree Star Eye Shadow Palettes, I was stunned! As a surprise the Hubs had gotten both the Jeffree Star Beauty Killer Palette and the Jeffree Star Androgyny Palette. To top it off, about the same time in the Geeks and Beauties group there was talk about a possible collab featuring the newer Androgyny palette. To see Angela’s review of the Jeffree Star Androgyny Palette here and you can check out my in-depth review, makeup look featuring both of the Jeffree Star Eye Shadow Palettes, and swatches via the video below!
Jeffree Star Eye Shadow Palettes: Packaging
The first thing that I want to talk about with the Jeffree Star Eye Shadow Palettes is the packaging. The unit carton for the Jeffree Star Beauty Killer Palette, the brand’s first palette, is a basic pink with gold lettering. With the Jeffree Star Androgyny Palette you can tell that Jeffree decided to up the design factor a little bit. Instead of just a basic burgundy shade the unit carton offers gold decorative stamping in the corners.
As you can see, for the back of the unit carton Jeffree upped the design factor again. Also, he added the line that this is the Jeffree Star version of a neutral palette. I didn’t get a photo of the actual palettes but he upped the design factor there as well because the back of the Androgyny palette features his social media contacts as well!
Jeffree Star Eye Shadow Palettes: Information & Shadows
Both of the Jeffree Star Eye Shadow Palettes can be purchased at either the Jeffree Star website or via Beautylish. To go along with that both palettes sell for $45 and come with 10 eyeshadows that are vegan and cruelty free. For reference in the above photo the Beauty Killer Palette is on the bottom and the Androgyny Palette is on the top. The Beauty Killer Palette includes shadows that have a matte, frost, or glitter formula. Whereas the Androgyny Palette has shadows that are either formulated to be super matte or metallic. The Beauty Killer Palette has light neutral shades, dark shades, and even some shades that are pops of color. The Androgyny palette does have some neutral shades but doesn’t have a super light shade like China White from the Beauty Killer Palette. Androgyny also has dark shades but again nothing as dark as Black Rainbow from the Beauty Killer Palette.
Jeffree Star Eye Shadow Palettes: Final Thoughts
So the question is, should you purchase either of the Jeffree Star Eye Shadow Palettes? My answer is yes and no. If you want a good amount of product for your money, you like having neutral shades along with pops of color then YES you should totally pick up one or both of these. From there as to which one you get that would be up to you. I find that the Jeffree Star Androgyny Palette does seem to have more “every day” shadow colors as the shades that are pops of color are deeper in shade instead of being super bright so they can be used lightly in a day-to-day look. However, the Jeffree Star Beauty Killer Palette does offer shades that are different from the other. If you’re torn between the two my suggestion would be to pick-up whichever one you lean more towards and then go back and pick up the other one later…OR if you make a $100 purchase via Beautylish you actually split the order total into 3 monthly payments with no interest! Anywho, back to the should you get them or not. If you’re someone who ONLY uses neutral shades then $45 for a few shadows would not be worth it to you.
