When Too Faced started to release their holiday collection “Christmas in New York” I fell in love, and the Hubs noticed. As an early Christmas present the Hubs let me pick up the EnTIRE Too Faced Christmas in New York Holiday Collection including the Limited Edition Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick in Candy Cane.
I went over what exactly a liquid lipstick is in yesterday’s post. As a quick refresher, a liquid lipstick is a highly pigmented lipstick in a liquid form that needs to be allowed to dry before going about your day and that is usually matte. The Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick is a bit different in the fact that it actually applies with a texture similar to that of a gloss and then once allowed to set dries into an ultra matte finish. Too Faced claims that this formula will never crack, shrivel, or dry on the lips due to the inclusion of avocado oil, Vitamin E, and hyaluronic spheres the latter of which will time release moisture into the lips keeping them moisturized.
Too Faced also claims that the Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick has a no-sting plumping filler called Vollulip that smoothes and plumps the lips. As for the Candy Cane specific Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick it actually has a unique packaging that is different than the other Melted Matte Lipsticks, instead of a gold colored handle the applicator on Candy Cane is actually a swirl of pink and red. To go along with that the Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick in Candy Cane also has a unique scent, peppermint mocha to go along with the name of the product.
I really, really, REALLY wanted to love the Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick, however, there just wasn’t a lot to love about the Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick in Candy Cane except the scent. The Peppermint Mocha scent of the Candy Cane Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick is strong but it smells sooo good and yummy. From there thought it’s just down hill. I don’t know if it’s the inclusion of the avocado oil and Vitamin E or just the way the formula is done but the Candy Cane Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick has such a slippery texture that it just goes EVERYWHERE when applying it. To make it worse the Candy Cane Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick took so LONG to set and after awhile I just gave up and came to the conclusion that it actually wasn’t going to get to the “ultra matte” that Too Faced claimed it would be. Due to the Candy Cane Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick never really setting to that ultra matte texture and staying slick it was not transfer proof in any way shape or form, it went all over everything ALL DAY LONG. Oh besides the scent I will give the Candy Cane Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick that it is opaque in one coat…
Ultimately, and sadly, I would have to say that this is a pass unless you can find it on sale or have a good coupon. Also, if you don’t mind taking your time while applying products, waiting forever for it to set, and being super careful when you eat then it’s a get but if those don’t sound fun to you then just skip. I do plan on getting at least one other of the Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick to see if it was just the Candy Cane or if this is across the line issues.
