This time of year I find that I hear from some of my friends about how they sometimes feel so rushed and that they’re not showing their spouse enough attention. They are so focused on the whole family during Thanksgiving and Christmas, shopping sales on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and just in general trying to be prepared for Christmas the rest of the time that something has to give. Don’t get me wrong the Hubs and I get caught up in the holiday rush sometimes but we always make sure to schedule a few holiday date nights in there to make up for it.

One of our favorite holiday date nights is to sneak away for an afternoon and go see a movie and have a lunch out before heading back to the house. However, once the ice starts to hit it can be hard to get out that often so sometimes we’ll schedule a stay-at-home holiday date night.

One idea for a stay-at-home holiday date night is to fix a meal together and incorporate that as part of your date. For our stay-at-home holiday night we’ll both work in the kitchen, I’ll fix the dinner and he’ll fix the dessert, laughing and joking as we work. Depending on what we’re having we’ll either eat before starting the movie or we’ll go ahead and start the movie and come back for the meal during the movie.

Some candles or a scent burner is another great addition to your stay-at-home holiday date night. We recently got one of those wax burners from Walmart and it is awesome as a bit of light in a dark room and does a great job of creating whatever mood you’re trying to set. I use it throughout the day changing out scents as the day progresses. A good one for a holiday date night is the Dual-Scented “Date Night” set of wax cubes from Walmart. They’re made a bit smaller than the regular ones as you’re meant to combine the two scents, which is a great concept by the way.

With it being the holiday season and being stuck in the house, a final stay-at-home holiday date night idea is to have some K-Y® YOURS+MINE on hand, just in case. If you look for the specially marked K-Y® DATE NIGHT sets that will be coming to stores soon. This offer, worth $50, includes one meal for two from PEACHDISH.com delivered to your door and a $5 VUDU credit (more details at K-Y.com).

The main idea is to just take a day or night for yourselves and have a date night. Heck you can make it a date day by starting the day by going shopping together for everything you’ll need for your night. That’s what we did for ours as everything was easy to find at Walmart and we had a blast just walking around the store and looking at other stuff. Oh and if you don’t think you’re the person who can walk up to a register with these purchases you can always buy at Walmart.com

We don’t really have “traditional” date night; but we do go out to dinner just about every Friday evening.

We LOVE having a date night in! After you pay for a sitter, dinner, and a movie – sometimes I would rather just lounge at home snuggling on the couch in comfy pi’s and a movie!
