Book Description
“In this irresistible romantic romp, movie fanatic Kensington Shaw is thrown into love — Hollywood-style — when her gorgeous ex presents a series of big screen challenges to win back her heart.
What girl wouldn’t want to experience the Pretty Woman shopping scene? It’s number two on the list. Or, try the lift fromΒ Dirty Dancing? It’s number five. One list, ten romantic movie moments, and a handful of shenanigans later, Kenzi has to wonder…should she marry the man her family loves, or risk everything for a love like the movies?”
My Review
When I started Love Like the Movies, I was expecting a cheesy romance novel. In some ways I was not disappointed and in others it exceeded my expectations. I loved how Kensington starts out doing things that will score her points with her parents, who she feels love her sister-in-law more, but by the end she’s doing things that will score herself points with herself. I knew from the moment that Shane messaged her that Kensi was going to be in for a wild ride, and boy was she. From a fiancee that cheats on her with a co-worker to reliving moments from some of her favorite romantic comedies. Speaking of the scenes, I thought they were going to be super cheesy and insulting to movies that I love. This couldn’t be further from what they were. Kensi and Shane pay homage to some classic romance scenes while still making them their own. When I read the Epilogue I was shedding tears right along with Kensi. Ultimately my favorite part of the book is when Kensi realizes that she doesn’t want a “love like the movies” instead she wants a LIFE like the movies. With all this praise you must be asking “Why didn’t you give it a 5?” If I was basing this book purely on the read itself it would have gotten a 5, however, I read the digital book on my Kindle and it was an INCREDIBLY hard book to read with the formatting.

I’m not one for romance novels mainly because I want the only love my husband can give. I think it’s funny that this book explored wanting a love like the movies, and hope that people realize you can have a deeper, realer love outside movies and books.
Jamie Rippy (@MamaMommyMom) says
Sounds like an interesting book… I’m always looking for new reads. I like that it plays on actual movies verses movies created in idea just for the purpose of the book.

I LOVE happy (sometimes) sappy chick-lit stories (and yes, I do write mystery books – not chick-lit), so I’ll definitely have to add this to my reading list! Are you on goodreads?
